I had the implant fitted in August, I didn't have a period until last week. I came on on Thursday and I am still bleeding now 9 days later. It's not heavy but I have never in my life had a period that lasted more than 5 days. Should I be worried and see the Dr? If it's going to be like this all the time I think I might have it removed

I had all sorts of problems with the implant and excessive bleeding was one of them

If it doesn't feel right to you, get it removed.

Thanks hun, I will see if I am still bleeding on Monday and make an appt with the Dr. I think it is also one of the reasons I can't seem to lose weight too.

Is it easy to remove?

I had mine fitted September 09. Had no bleeding whatsoever until 2 months ago and since then i've been spotting every 10 days. Loved my implant until then as i didn't seem to have any reactions to it. Now since my 'first' period i've been putting on weight so easily and it's hard to shift and have seemed to develop a rage. Rather than wait to see if it calms down i'm having it removed on thursday

I only bleed every 3 months or so with the implant but it does then last (quite lightly) for about 11 days which is a bit of a pain... I'm finding it OK otherwise though :nod:

I *think* I have stopped bleeding so will see how it goes, if it starts again I am going to have it removed.

It could just be settling down JT, if the bleeding is stopping now, I'd be inclined to wait and see what happens next month.

I'm one of those *lucky* women who still get a period every month since having my implant inserted in September last year :roll:


Could very well be causing a shitty mood JT - my friend had hers removed after her husband called it "the bitch chip" :teehee:

I'm still bleeding 12 days on :no: I think I'm going to as for it to be removed. How easy is it to remove? So frustrating.

not sure on the procedure but my nurse told me i had to have it in at least 3 months before they'd consider removing it due to the cost. So depending on how long you've had it in for you may have to wait a while longer to see if it settles down or not

It's not been 3 months. I think I will speak to my Dr. This bleeding I almost 3 times longer than I've ever bled since starting my periods. Sucks :sigh:

i *think* they can make exceptions though if it's effecting your day to day life like your constant bleeding, it seems to depend on your doctor/nurse where i live. If they refuse at first keep pushing them, it's your body afterall and they cant realistically expect you to wait however long for it to stop

Hun, just give it a touch longer, I was so close to giving up and having it taken out and now almost 6 months in my hormones have settled down and I feel happy with it.

Thanks I hope she does remove it. I've put on weight, have constant spots, bad mood swings and now bleeding. It been since Aug and that's when I had it fitted!

Just to update, I am still bleeding (spotting mostly but some days heavier) over 4 weeks on... I am seeing the Dr today to ask her to remove it.

Has anyone had it removed? How do they remove it?

It may just take a while to settle down - would you be happy to take the Pill alongside for a few months? This obviously regulatues your cycle and can kick start the body back into a regular cycle.

My sister has had here for nearly 6 years now and has no bleeding at all for the last 5. She's had it removed and a new one put in 3 years ago and is just due to get it done again. As long as you can still feel it its very easy to remove with just a small incision.

I have given it a chance but 4.5 weeks of bleeding is a joke! I am having it removed ASAP so I can get back to normal.

I will probably end up back on the pill altho its a PITA

I am glad I've got to six months. I'm less moody and I've only had one 'proper' period since having it in, just a bit of spotting now and again.

Have replied anyway but yes and no. I had brown spotting which required just a liner and then a really heavy period which lasted about 3.5 weeks. But that's all i've had since having it in. xx
