View Full Version : My MIL's found a lump

My MIL has found a lump. Its on her neck kind of behind her neck. Its apparently been there for 3 or 4 weeks but she did nothing about or and told nobody. One of her daughters has been stying with her this week with her grandkids as its half term here and she noticed it and made her go to the GP. This was on Wednesday. The GP took one look at it and made her go into hospital there and then - a 70 mile round trip. She saw a consultant and is booked in for a biopsy on it tomorrow morning at 10am.
I'm really worried because they've acted so quickly. She's supposed to be going on a 3-1/2 week holiday to Australia at the end of October and she reckons that they've bumped her up the queue because of this - but I'm not so sure.
DH is being very quiet about it all. His Dad (MIL's husband) died of cancer aged 48. I guess he's really worried too but scared to say anything.
I so hope she's OK. Not sure when she will get the results of tomorrows tests.

God C, I'm really sorry to hear that. I reckon they have'bumped her up' the queue because she's had the lump for a month and not spoken to anyone about it.
I hope it's nothing serious honey and just something like a build up of fluid :higgies:

:higgies: to you. If it's any consolation my mum recently had a bit of a "scare" and was seen within 24 hours, she was terrified at the speed and mentioned it to the doctor why they were rushing her through, and apparently it's all down to government targets.
Fingers crossed it's something and nothing :higgies:

Hope they are just being over cautious. I had a lump on my neck about a year ago and it turned out to be some kind of cyst.
Hopefully it will be a similar story with your MIL>

Hope it all works out okay. It is very common to get these things checked out quickly though just to be safe. When I had my first lumpectomy I saw the Doc on the Monday and by the following Monday had had it removed and it was benign, phew.
Let's hope it is the same for your Mil.

sorry I am late to this.
:higgies: hope there's nothing to worry about. they do seem to act incredibly quickly with things like this, and probably quicker in light of her holiday.
Fingers crossed it will be ok - you know where we are if you need to vent.

We're still no further on. She hasn't had results back on her biopsy yet but she has been given an appointment for a scan next Wednesday - the day before she is supposed to be going on holiday to Australia.  She doesn't know whether to bother packing or not.

Did she get the appt for the scan following the biopsy or before?
One of my lumps has been biopsied, ultrasound scanned and mammogrammed and after all that was glad to find out was a fibroid adenoma (benign)
