Me, DH and some friends thought it would be fun to do some "come dine with me" style parties.
So I am now looking for inspiration for what people like to be served when they go out for dinner. One of our friends is an amazing cook so we have no chance of winning:lol: and he is competitive but i still want to put up a good fight.

SO what would you like for starters and main, i have dessert covered as SIL made the most delicious dessert when we last went to hers so i have the recipe for that and its very easy.

SO any ideas for something impressive but not too complicated as I can get by in the kitchen but I am not an expert by any means.

DH is suggesting the beef wellington from JOs book as i have done that a few times for family and always goes down well but i fancy something different, probably quite a light starter too.

I think lots of wine may help too.....................

How about Tempura vegetable and Aoili or Goats cheese salad for starters and herb crusted sea bass (I have an easy recipe) or something simple (and popular) like steak and chips for the main course?

I would stick with something I am confident cooking, something seasonal, and something that can be prepared in advance.

How about a trout mousse or some gilli prawns for an appetiser, with some nice rustic bread

I think this is a great idea for a dinner party. I had wondered about trying to organise the same kind of thing - but got stuck when the husbands weren't game. Then I realised that we could do it a la Telly and not bring a partner. Basically the men can stay at home and look after the kids and we'll do the 4/5 dinner parties. I'm back on the case!

Are you going to do the scoring too? I was wondering whether you could link the points total to a charity donation or something?

Yes we are doing the points scoring but not decded what to do about a "prize" yet but that is a good idea.
Thankfully for us one of the husbands is a really enthusiastic cook so they other men tag along cos he is game but my hubby is so determined to beat him!!! haha!!!! The other hubby is just willing to come along and get fed and drink and have a laugh. We do have another couple in the group but they live quite far away so don't know if they will join in.
Its prob not going to get started toil the middle of september with all our schedules but want to get some practise.
