View Full Version : Going backwards with the potty
Some of you may know that Lulah was a bit of a potty protege...
But sadly we seem to have gone backwards :-( and she hardly will sit on the potty any more.
Sometimes she'll tell me she's pooing and wants the potty, but nothing like a wee while ago.
I suppose I've just got to let her do her thing and pick it up again when she's ready?
Anyone else experienced this? I had hoped to get her into :pants: soon, but she says NO when I show her the new knickers I'd bought her :-(

Mine did much the same. He was happy sitting on the potty when he was around 2ish and then refused pointblank to go near it. He finally came round to the idea at the beginning of this year once he was 3, and I decided to bypass the potty and use a seat on the loo.
It worked well and he was sorted very quickly and with very few accidents.
And I can't tell you the numbers of pants I bought in my bid to get him interested

I seem to remember Connor doing something similar, Minky. Though nearer two and a half (boys do tend to be later). We left it a couple of weeks completely, and then started again - with much more success.
We also found Connor much preferred going on the loo rather than the potty, so got him a wee seat on a step ladder thing. Hope that makes sense!
Anyway - don't lose heart. I think the trick for success is to follow their lead. Don't forget that Lulah is only just two, and to be potty trained at this age is very unusual.

We have definately gone backwards here.
Refuses to sit on the potty at first and then falls off and tips it over with or without contents in it. :laff: He was very good at one point and even had dry nights a bit back.
I suppose it's early days yet though and we will start again soon in the summer months.
Sounds a bit familiar  James started consistently pooing on the potty from around 19 months then regressed about 4 months ago :-(
He has been better since we invested in a toilet seat (nice padded one from Mothercare with arms on the side so he can hold on for stability iyswim). He often wees there but rarely actually asks for it for that purpose (put him on at every nappy change and before his bath). He refuses to use a potty at the childminders though  Personally I think he's just not ready and I just enjoy every poo in the loo as it's one less nappy to deal with.
We're going to try cold turkey in summer at my mums :D so she can deal with the mess :laff:
Reading these other posts its not that uncommon so try not to worry too much chick!

Same here too, he was really doing well until his sister showed up  Now he's totally off the wagon and won't go at all

When S started wearing pants she had a good week or two at first and then started having accidents all the time. We think it was because we kept on asking if she needed to go to the loo or trying to take her there. When we then stopped asking her if she needed to go she suddenly started going back to it of her own accord and shortly afterwards was dry most of the time.
