View Full Version : What plates & cutlery does your 4 yr old have?

Theo has always had a plastic plate + bowl + cup, but they are getting a bit baby-ish now and a bit small, as he can actually eat more than what can fit in the bowl- which I use for pasta and spagetti..
I could just use our plates, and I do to a certain extend, but would prefer to have some kids plates and cutlery and cups.
He has an array of plastic cups, open top ones I mean..
He has never smashed a plate or even dropped his plastic one, so I am not worried about that, but do you use plastic or porcelain for your 4 yr old?
And where from?
TIA:flowers:

Hmm yeah, maybe I should just get the Ikea stuff..
I never did buy any Ikea cutlery, but it IS handy isn't it..:scratchchin:
The plastic stuff we have is just from Mothercare.

A mixture here.
China bowl for brekkie (one of ours), but plastic for lunch/dinner.
Just because DS still 'needs' plastic (cracked one of our bowls a while back so is banned from china for now) so it's just easier.
I'm not sure what the next step would be, our plates seem a bit big for them.
Sorry, that was less than no help

Does this cutlery last?
As I have bought cutlery like that before and the metal bits came out of the plastic bit if you pressed it too hard into the food, so DS1 would sit there with just a plastic handle in his hand and the forky bit in his food:lol:

A bit of both.
They've got some santa plates (which they got in their Xmas sack) that they like and are pottery (porcelain, I'm not sure!) They were from Tesco's, they've also got some oval plates which were from Ikea a bit like this, but different design
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90132968
so kind of side plates that i've bought specifically for the kids.
And their favourite are their rainforest cafe melamine ones.

So far it has been fab. I got in in about November.
I "treated" Bea to the spotty Cath Kidston set for Christmas - cups/plates/bowls. They seem to be the right size for her appetite but she's not a huge eater tbh. As far as cutlery goes, I got a bunch of these from Halfcost (http://www.halfcost.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=11&productId=48619&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=12001&categoryId=12003&cache_entry=-1):

They're fab and have lasted really really well (work out at 50p a set - serrated knife and everything!)

We have this stuff for both of them - http://www.gltc.co.uk/fcp/product/-/home_school_car_mealtimes_tableware/Summer-Sorbet-Melamine-Tableware-Set---SAVE-£3/10000001025 - plus a metal kids set of cutlery from Matalan.

DD uses the same crockery and cutlery as we do. sometimes a plastic cup though.
I've got the Dragon stuff from Ikea (http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/search/?query=dragon). Its dessert cutlery, but perfect size for the boys.
They use plastic plates or the FAB ones I got from The Powder Rooms (http://www.powderrooms.com/shop/little_people/tools_for_teatime/food_face)
Fred has a mixture.
Breakfast china bowl - non-tippable (you know what I mean) as usually if he uses our breakfast bowls then its bye-bye cereal). He has an assortment of Ikea plates and bowls plus other melamine things. He also uses our stuff a fair bit - just depends on what we reach for out of the cupboard.
He has various metal cutlery sets - Star Wars etc.

I just use our normal stuff, although i do tend to serve most of her food in a pasta bowl. If she is having snacks then she gets one of the many pink plastic bowls/plates. As for cutlery, either a starter fork or kids plastic handled stuff.

Both DDs have a side plate of our normal 'adult' crockery and they use the Halfcost pink cutlery set.

My DS1, aged 4, refuses to use a plastic plate now so I use some lovely Winnie the Pooh and Peter Rabbit porcelain sets he got for his Christening.
I also bought a really cheap plain white plate and bowl from Sainsbury's that he uses too.

DS just uses the same plates as we do (usually the smaller side plate from the set)
we have some small metal cutlery (forget where they are from)

At 4 he had what we had proper plate & the same knife & forks that we used
Kane just uses the same plates as I do. I have a couple of cake forks in my cutlery set and uses that with a normal knife although he never cuts anything by himself.
He has also progressed to glasses now and rather annoyingly he prefers the really tall glasses!!
He is very careful though so i am not too worried.
He likes being a big boy
