the little one was getting ready for bed tonight and when i took off her knickers there was a really yukky smell. being a mummy and of course having to investigate i had a whiff:oops: and it's coming from her front bottom. i can't see any obvious soreness or discharge but it definitely doesn't smell very nice.

do you think she could have an infection?

(honest to GOD i cant believe the things i ask complete strangers:oops:    )

Sorry I did chuckle when I read your post but only because you sound like me, I am a serial sniffer when it comes to Isabel  God knows why I sniff everything because half the time it makes me heave.

Don't know what to suggest really. Can you describe the smell (is that an impossible task!)

not really - i wasn't keen to spend too much time with my head close to my daughter's foof!!!

Tsk. And you consider yourself a sniffer :teehee:

If you are concerned then I would get it checked out, perhaps keep an eye on it for a day or two - yes more sniffing required.

Hi Lois, does it smell like a urine infection? I know this may sound odd but they have a very distinctive smell. Not sure that I can describe it really. Does she get upset when she wee's - like it hurts? It might be worth trying to get a clean specimen and taking it to the practice nurse to let her dip it.

Thrush? I *think* you can have thrush without a discharge, my DD has had it a few times, but just complained of being itchy (which perhaps Paige can't explain fully).

The doc will give you a swab kit and you can take your own swabs to check for nasties.

Other than that, has she been wiping her own bum? If she has, perhaps she hasn't wiped properly (TMI )

I'm a sniffer too - you can't investigate propery if you don't sniff (IMO). I hasten to add, I'll only sniff my own family though :laff:

i'm not sure what a uti would smell like as i've never had one?? she doesn't cry when she wees but she does seem to have her hands in the general area a lot - i thought it might just be *ahem* exploring as it's a novelty not to wear a nappy.

kate - she does wipe her own front bum (but mummy has the delightful job of wiping poos still! ) so maybe she's not getting properly clean.

i think maybe she is wiping her wee around her very front bottom area and its getting stuck in the wee delicate folds. it tends to take on a less-than-fragrant aroma ...

er, i didn't learn this from *firsthand* experience, but from taking care of my younger cousin!

She seems to be a lot better now. I've been bathing her every night and cleaning her bottom with a very mild baby soap and she hasn't had a repeat of the nasty whiff.

Think you are right Cherry in that she wasn't wiping properly.

Maybe go to docs anyay to check its not anything more serious.
