Will try to keep this brief as it feels like it was a very long, drawn out first stage!
Through the day on Friday I was having some more positive feeling cramping and by the time DH got home from work we thought things might happen overnight, so we packed poor Jake off to his grandparent's house and by the time we got back at around 7pm I started timing contracttions every 6ish mins and lasting 30-40 seconds. I called the hospital at 9:30pm and they said I needed to be looking at every 4 mins lasting for 1 minute.
At 11pm I decided to go to bed and try to get some sleep as the contractions were very manageable.
So, went to bed and was up at 2:30am upset because it had all stopped. They started up again on Sat but were very erratic - between 5 and 12 minutes but were lasting a minute. Again, still manageable, but def more intense than before.
I lost patience on Sat night and went to bed at 9:30pm. Was woken by a few contractions in the night and at 1:30am went to the loo and had a big bloody show. The contractions weren't regular still but were much more painful so I called hospital again and they advised to go in as second baby and may have progressed quickly.
Got to hospital around 2:30am this morning and saw a student midwife who was timing contractions and asked if I'd be happy to stay and keep moving around to try to regulate them a bit. So I did and they grew in intensity.
There were a few tears at points as I didn't think I could do it.
They said they didn't want to examine me until the contractions were a bit stronger so I kept walking around and breathing through them.
At nearly 5am we were taken to a room with a birthing pool and the contractions were really painful at this point so she asked if I was happy to be examined and I was 5cm dilated so they started to fill the pool and gave me some gas and air.
I swear the contractions were horrific and so much worse than when I had Jake! It seemed to take an age to fill the pool and I got in around 5:55am. It was nice but I was dissapointed that it didn't seem to take the pain away asmuch as it had with Jake. I now know that this was because things were going a lot faster.
I had a few horrendous contractions in the water, nearly feel asleep at a couple of points as was so tired but then I could feel to urge to push and they just told me to go with my body. I felt like my bottom was going to fall out and then felt the ring of fire!
The midwife was saying that she was sure she could see his head and I could feel it!
I pushed his head out and was in the most pain ever and then just kept pushing and his body came out. He had a little swim :lurve: and they encouraged me to scoop him out of the water and onto me and it was so lovely! So he was born at 6:51am.
We had loads of skin to skin in the pool for a few mins and then whilst/ after I'd delivered the placenta and it was nice as the three of us stayed in the room for a couple of hours until I was moved to the ward.
He fed a few times and on the ward he was so chilled and had a good sleep so we read the sunday papers together whilst Daddy went to get his big brother.
Big brother was very excited to see him and seems to be dealing with the whole thing quite well.
I did tear but didn't need stitches but my bum is killing me because of my piles .
Just going to try to get some sleep now as knackered but he has decided he wants more milk! He has taken to breastfeeding really well and does this cute little licking his lips/ rooting thing:lurve:.
Sorry have to rush off now to deal with little man. I am besotted and beside myself with love for him already.
