your 11 year old is off to America for christmas and you and your 3 year old are going to stay with you parents xmas eve - boxing day??
There will be no one here christmas day and TBH I could do without the hassle of getting it all out (I think its in the loft) and then putting it all away after.
WWYD??
ETA - yay I did a poll

I'm not bothering this year as DS will be at his dads and my mum laid up after her operation. The cats will probably trash the tree if I do so I thought why bother?

I voted yes as I love putting up the tree and decorating it while listening to cheesy xmas tunes with a (non alcoholic) beer in my hand!
It's up for over a month in our house too, wouldnt feel like xmas to me without it :happyno:

I love Xmas  if it were up to me just me I'd go very overboard.

I'd pit it up but I put mine up the first week of Dec and take it down Dec 27th so being away for the last few days wouldn't make me want to miss out on having one.

I voted yes, because I actually like putting the decorations up on the first of December, and it's good to get into the spirit of xmas early:grin:

Definitely. I LOVE Xmas! Even if A isn't going to be at your house over Xmas day, surely he'll be excited with the run-up?

Actually this is a good point! He will probably get very excited with the run up as it'll be the first year he understands properly
It's just the hassle of getting it out  I don't know where it is :meh:
I just don't know if I CBA, but I haven't even began to think about xmas yet

Yes I would, just decorate it with my DS more than anything else.
I would. You don't need to put the whole lot up, but certainly something to make your house seem festive.
Yes, ours is up from the first week of December.

Yes, because it doesn't feel like the build up to Christmas without the tree and even if you're not there on the actual day, it's nice to have all the excitement and anticipation of it

Yes I would. And in fact if you're not too fussed about it then you could let your DS be in charge and you won't worry what it ends up looking like but he will love it

I haven't voted because i'm not sure if it were up to just me then i have to say no i wouldn't bother, but i don't really like Xmas Decorations and i LOATHE putting up the tree (DH has done it the last 2 years because i just wasn't interested)
However if you're only away from home for a few days over Xmas there is of course the rest of December and after Xmas as well til you take it down, although again if i had my way i'd take it down Boxing Day
So my post has been completely unuseful to you

I've voted yes, because Christmas isn't just for Christmas Day  , it's about the run up to the day too!!

Yes, we are away every year over Christmas for a few days, but we always put decorations and real tree up on around the 17th.

Maybe - we are away at least 19th-22nd (normally I wouldn't bring the tree in before then as it is a real one in a pot) and then 24th-29th, but my niece is probably coming to stay after that, and normally I'd leave it up till the 6th.
So I might bring it in on the 23rd and decorate it a bit then, or I might :loco: bring it in on the 29th and niece can help decorate!

I think you should. It's the one thing that makes me feel all nice and Christmassy, so even if you aren't home on the day, if you're anything like me, it'll just be fun putting it up.
I was toying with the idea of not getting a tree myself this year. No kids in this house, so just me and the dog, but I'm having people round a few times in the run-up to Christmas and I think the house would just seem weird without anything Christmassy there. I'm only getting a little tree though.

I voted yes. Christmas celebrations aren't necessarily confined to just Christmas day, and the tree with all the decs helps the whole 'Christmas Spirit' get going.

I voted no. I'm quite traditional and our decorations only stay up for the twelve nights so no, I wouldn't go the whole hog if I was going to be away for the actual day itself.

100% yes.
We put our tree up on 1st of December as we are always away over Christmas so we like to have a few weeks to enjoy it!

Definately  Putting up the decs is one of the nicest parts of Christmas for me, and there is nothing more Christmasy than sitting by the tree with carols on wrapping presents :lurve:

I'm not this year at home because we are going away. Also my DD's birthday is 14th December and I don't put the tree up until after her birthday and we are going away on 16th. Totally didn't see the point for 1 day! MIL and FIL are holding off decorating their tree so the kids can do it when they get to theirs.

Now my mum will have a tree and TBH A spends more time at my mums than home as she has him 2 days while I work (we are out most weekends too, quite often at my mums) and the kids can decorate her tree so they wont miss out on that part
Plus I *think* in America they put the tree up on xmas eve (is that right) so K will be there for that.
It just seems so much work (actually finding the tree/decs and putting it up) when we wont be at home most of Xmas

Yes- TBH you are only away a short time from home over the festive season.
Your 3yr old is only small, but he'll get the message that Xmas "isn't worth the bother if K isn't here" . I' know you'll miss your big girl but the small one is important too.
Our tree goes up when school finished till 12th night. THe kids do it- the tree taste forgot- and it is brilliant!

I voted not as I will be in a similar possition this year as we are going away.
I might put up some decorations up to add a festive feel to the place but not the tree.
Tough one as A is hardly ever there anyway as he's at nursery or mums and it's not even like you will be there between Xmas and New Year either! Well you better not be anyway!!!!!
Could you maybe not do the full tree etc but just have some Christmassy things around the house. He'll have the tree at mums, nursery and here so not like he'll be missing out at all!!
We don't have kids, and we are never at home for Christmas, but we still get a tree (we don't really put decorations up other than my wooden advent calendar; all the cards take up enough room). The cats would be disappointed if they didn't have any baubles to play with!

This is where we differ JT as to me "Xmas" is Dec 1st to 29th and you're away for 3 days of that! That's not most! Go on, buy a cheapo pre lit or something and let A make some decorations for it.
