View Full Version : Damsels Scotland Meet!

Pikeypants

OK, The Mega Meet has officially graduated to Damsels! :ellie:

In keeping with our mascot, please have a look in Damsels Mum's Photos for our secret location, then sign up here. We need to decide a date too.

Options are:

1st July
8th July
15th July
22nd July
29th July

Anyone with further suggestions & hotel recs near the venue, please post in Dams photos. I really hope lots of people will make the effort to travel. I know it is a long way & will cost some pennies but it really will be a great weekend (London & Birmingham were fab :ellie: )

For those who really can't make it- watch this space, we will keep on having them around the country until everyone has been to at least one Mega Meet!

Well I suppose if you can make them all, then vote for none! It is the same result :wik:

I couldn't see the location on Damsels Mums Photos  Anyway since i'm in the vicinity I probably will be going along! Unless its arranged for the 8th or 15th July - I'll be on holiday then so I'd miss it :-(

Also couldn't see an option for the 29th on the poll? Is my eyesight failing in me old age? :laff:

Please please please please can we make it the 22nd?????? (which I have obviously voted for ;-) )
I am coming up to my parents for 6 weeks (possibly more) once things are a bit more settled with madam, but can't imagine I'll be there much before the 15th so the 22nd would be MUCH better for me :D I'll pretty definitely be there by then and I missed the London meet because I was working the night before :-(

I should make all of the dates. I have my mum and dad and my friend visiting at some points in July so I am hoping that it will be the 22nd :D Though the 1st would also be just as funky :D

For the other dates I would just have to explain to whichever one it clashed with

Mimsy- Of course I will be there! Wouldn't miss a shindig in Bonnie Scotland now would I?

Adelelee- you'd better get your ass there madam- besides I wanna check out Mr Adelelee :wik:

Noo Noo- is there anyone over there who isn't over here though? It is afterall a Damsels meet now. What if I post about a meet with no details & anyone can PM me if they want to come- that way I can redirect them without getting into trouble

I'd be happy to make it the 22nd if it means Shamu can come :) Lots of people seem to be able to do any date so if there are no objections, we will make it so!

Adelelee
21-04-2006, 07:57pm
Jet2.com fly Manchester to Edinburgh (though probaby East Midlands would be closer for you??)

BMIbaby also fly there

Not sure about flying at 32 weeks?? What about the train?

If we come then we shall drive up, thinking of coming up Friday night and staying with Rellies and then in hotel Saturday night!!

Pikey, you are more than welcome to check him out love :laff: :laff: :laff:

Pikeypants
21-04-2006, 08:00pm
BMI Baby fly from our local airport SP- I've just ahd a look & you can do it for as little as £32.93, although you would have to stay an extra day!

To fly out Sat & back Sun is from £42.93 if you are willing to fly back at 9pm. There are only 3 seat left though...shall I book them?!

I just had a look at them pikey (and have checked out Brum airport too).

You also need a docs certificate and to contact them before the booking to fly between 30 and 36 weeks. Thing is, the flight back on Sunday is quite late. :-( And I would need to know how much a hotel might be.

I have had a look at the train and that is 4:30 hours each way!

And I haven't even checked the calender yet to see if I can go.

silverpod
21-04-2006, 08:10pm
Oh, and I got a quote for over £43.. is that 'cos dd is over 2 and I have to get a seat for her? (There won't be any room left on my lap by that point I can assure you!)

Pikeypants
21-04-2006, 08:25pm
Yes you will have to pay for DD but she will get her own seat at least, unlike wrigglebum Jen who will be walking all over me to talk to all the other passengers no doubt

The hotel that we are currently looking at is £49 per night. The Sunday flight is quite late, but the earlier one is too expensive.

silverpod
21-04-2006, 08:42pm
I don't think it's do-able, I just had another look with all the info and the cheapest for us is £87, then hotel at £50. (Plus other bits) :-( Plus I am worried about finalising things until I have had my 20 week scan to see how things are. So go ahead and book for you and Jen. I should have put my foot down and told DH I wanted to go to the Brum meet now.

But I was amazed how cheap some of them were-£2.99. It's more expensive to get the bus to Derby (though they don't charge £15 in tax! :laff: )

Aww thanks chick! Ha ha - you may not want me there if I'm still in the "mad" postnatal phase though :laff: But I'd be GUTTED if it was a week or two before we arrived......

SP - if you didn't mind sleeping on a fold up bed we could probably put one person up (my mum is SOOO going to have a fit when I tell her all this  :laff: ) But no guarantees she'll agree. I have a Ready Bed that I could take up with me so LO or James could sleep in that......

Oh Shamu bless you for your offer. :flowers:

I suppose I am thinking with my head though, and we may need to buy a double buggy, so it's either a damsels meet or a double buggy! :laff: And I know I should choose the meet over and above everything, (marriage, mortgage etc) but it's also combined with knowing I will be quite pregnant.

I'll console myself with :choc:

Sounds like a fab idea. The highlands aren't really that far away and are soooo romantic ;-) And I'm sure your OH could find something to keep him busy in Edinburgh during the day eg the Whisky tour :D I'd offer to babysit so you could have a romantic evening out but apparently I'll have my hands full :laff: Not sure why????!!!

Ooooh me please! Have already informed DH that as the meet is Scotland this year, I will DEF be going (even if he does think I'm crazy  ). Am wondering how I will do it though. Doubt DH would want to come, as I'm hoping for a drink in the bar in the evening after the ickle uns have gone to bed - I'll bring the monitor. Only a bit worried about the money side of things though. Don't think I can justify driving as there's only me (unless another Aberdeen peep wants to car share - although be warned I have never driven in a big, scary city before :laff: ).

Can't WAIT to see some of you again (Pikes, Dev...) and am optimistically looking forward to a grown up drinky poos with my lufferly Aberdeen chums who I have only ever done pre-school things with :laff: And can't WAIT to meet the rest of you :ellie:

Aw, shame you can't make it Clowe, would have been excellent to meet you!

personally, I would LOVE it to be in Newcastle! I used to live in Durham and go shopping/clubbing in Newcastle. I briefly had a flat there too (Fenham I think it was called) and got myself a hip job in the Riverside Club, and a place at Art College there. I was all set....... then my A Level results came in and I had failed Art (even though based on the same work I was offered a place on a highly competitive course in a prestigious art college  ). So my Dad decided I wasn't an artist and physically removed me, shipping me up to Scotland :-( My life has turned out well but I still have resentment in my heart about that......

Sorry, 2 glasses of wine and you get my life story :laff: But I have a special place in my heart for Newcastle, so would love an excuse to go back.

Can anyone PM me the hotel please? Have looked on the web and there's 3 of those hotels in Edinburgh....which one is it?

Getting excited now :ellie:

Redsquare, we're waiting for the laydee to get back to Pikey. She's left a couple messages with them. I've tried to pay for my room too, but they won't let you until Pikes has booked the room officially. So don't worry, it's under control! (as long as you're on Pikey's list of peeps for the hotel)

Just to let you know- I have booked the rooms & confirmed our names by email.

You can secure the room with a credit card or pay in advance- up to you, but please do one or the other!

Please call the tel number for the hotel & ask for Kirstie in Events. She is dealing with the booking & will sort you

Just to confirm- the following has been booked:

Pikey & Pancake- single rooms + cots
Noo Noo- Family room (waiting to hear how much it will be) Noo- can you bring your travel cot please as they only have 5 & you are the only one coming by car (i think)

Julesfh- double room + cot
Bookie & Bluekat- twin + 2 cots

Redsquare- I will post the hotel name & details in Damsels Mums photos. I will put the tel no there too.

The meal is also confirmed so I will be needing payment of £18 each by the end of June. I will PM my bank details to everyone nearer the time. As for children's meals- I would say pay for a childs meal if they are over 3 yrs old as a guideline- does that seem about right?

Hi guys! I've only just found this thread:doh:. Would I be allowed to join in??
If so, please could someone PM me details? Have also been looking at the secret location thread, but not had time to read it all with my 2 wee men racing around!
Thanks in advance!

HOW BLOODY INFURIATING! I just phoned to try and pay (again) and didn't get Kirstie as she was away from her desk, but went through all this trying to figure out which was right booking (my fault as I didn't know Pikes surname) and eventually she said "oh you can't pay yet as the booking hasn't been confirmed by post). Argh! I told her that's what happened last time I phoned, and that is what Pikes had sorted out.... she just basically said there's no way any of us can pay or even confirm our rooms until she gets the paper form. Sorry to be a grump about this, I just want to get it paid before my sensible side stops me (as I can't really afford it).

I phoned and she said that I could leave my details and she would add them when the post confirmation came back. I too had difficulty as I didn't konw Pikey's name. It made for quite an interesting conversation

Well, disregard my earlier grumpy as hell post about useless Apex. Kirstie is your girl - she knows what's going on :thumb: I have just paid :ellie: so am def. def. coming now (I was swithering as we're skint...). I just think you need to talk to the right person!

Sorry for being so rubbish. Have had a problem with the bank after a hotel we stayed in at the weekend decided to hang onto my pre-authoristation charge rather than give it back :sigh: HBOS wouldn't transfer the money for me as the transatction was pending even though it wasn't IYSWIM.
Will put the cash in manually today.
