OK, so I though I had decided to get a Kari-me but that was ages ago and now I've decided that I should actually get round to buying somehting for this baby I can't remember why I settled on a Kari-me and am thinking about a Moby (it's slightly cheaper)

SO which is better and why?

I prefer (and chose to stock, so big decision) the Moby.

I found the slightly lighter weight fabric was nicer over a range of weathers / temperatures.

The edges on the Kari me tend to roll over with use too, especially after washing. Doesn't sound a big deal but does mean the potential for pressure points for the adult and child (which can dig in over time when carrying for long periods).

I think you'd be happy with either though :)

I second the Moby, it's what I learned to wrap with. I found it a bit hot, but the fabric was good and didn't sag too much, the main drawback of stretchy wraps.

Really? Cos I was about to say the opposite! I had a Moby, a very very old one, and it was SO thick and I was boiling hot in it. By contrast, my friend's Kari-me seemed much cooler when I tried it. Mine was an ancient Moby though so I wonder if perhaps they've used a lighter weight fabric since...

Hmmm, I have a really vague feeling they did change fabrics at some point but I have no idea when. I think Moby also focused a lot on kids clothing and other things when they first set up, but then the slings took off and they kind of took over and they ran with it. Certainly when I did my comparision testing the Moby was a much finer, slightly smoother fabric and the Kari me slightly thicker and cushier. I always kind of felt the KAri Me was wonderful, but perhaps a bit over-engineered and the Moby did as good a job but at a cheaper price tag. Have known loads of Kari Me lover though so...

i was wondering if matthew is a bit too big for going in a sling?? on my back? or hip? He is a pain for walking (typical boy) and sometimes i cant be mithered keep getting the buggy out, and well, any excuse for a snuggle with him!!

Definitely not too old for sling (although if you don't usually carry him it is wise to build yourself up to it) but definitely not in a stretch wrap like a Moby or Kari Me. There are lots of different types of sling out there though that are great for that sort of age and up  Choosing depends on other factors too really - like your build and height, what sort of activity you would be mainly doing it for (long walks, quick dashes into shops or out of car and into nursery, on hot holidays), etc...

ah right, well he's a chubby lad too!!

I'd mainly be using it for wandering at the park and shops.

Im quite short (5ft 3) and not skinny but not fat, well i dont think i am. im just sort of average build, oh with big boobs. lol.

i dont really want to go for one of those back pack sort of things, they look like such hard work.

I met a woman at playgroup today using a kari me sling which looked really comfy. I haven't got on with the baba sling at all and thinking of switching to one of these kind. Still worried about getting all sweaty though...

Hmmm, all sounds interesting, especially about the temperature thing. Am thinking a Moby might be a better option.

Thanks
