If I use equest wormer every 13 weeks like it says on the packet, does that cover everything or should I be using something else as well??
Is equitape 'instead of' or 'as well as' equest??
I don't trust manafacturers recommendations when it comes to medecines, vaccines, supplements etc...obviously they want to play on your fears and make you put your hand in your pocket.
I just want to give him the minimum to give him a clearout and keep him healthy.

I think that unless there are outward signs (thin, poor weight gain, unhealthy-looking coat) that he needs more, it should be enough.
I don't know the names of English wormers - is it a 'broad spectrum' one? I know that we once did 3 different wormers (covering different parasites) on one of our horses because he wasn't gaining weight.
Is he out or in or both?

i use equest which is every 13 weeks then in march and november i use panacur (sp?) 5 day guard, if you want a worming program then ring your vets and they will do one for you.
Also you can use the 5 day guard to help sort out there tums when they do loose poo's, which i only found out when talking to a vet about my oldie.

Thanks guys!
He looks perfectly healthy...glossy coat...very fat! etc.
He's out all summer and in at night in winter and I do poo-pick the field until it gets too muddy for a wheelbarrow!
I'll stick with equest then, and do the 5-day clearout later! :thumb:

I'd just like a simple guide that tells you what to give and when.
But when you google wormers you just come up with a list of suppliers!

ive got an old worming program from my old vets if you want it, also i got loads of different companies information saying what to give and when, maybe follow one then change the next year??
If you want any let me know and ill have a look for you as i got loads of stuff from when my old girl was really poorly with worms when i got her.

i will do that for you, just need to find 5 mins to copy it out when jack isnt trying to hit every key on the keyboard!
On another note in my equest file they say to do equest all year and pytantel (double normal does) in autumn for tapeworm.

I can never remember which ones you're supposed to give when so I use the calendar on www.wormers.co.uk - also I don't worm religiously every 6 weeks because I don't believe it's good for them... you can get the eggs counted instead.
