This is a fast one
On Friday I met the NCT girls in the morning, dropped G off at nursery at lunchtime and then went for my reflexology appointment. She said that this time she'd 'tweak' the relevant parts since I was close to my due date and I napped through most of the session
We went out for dinner and I had a bit of a dull ache going on low down by about 7pm, but it was constant so assumed it was just the head dropping a bit lower.
Got home, put G to bed and settled down to watch TV. At about 9.30ish the braxton hicks were coming quite frequently and getting more uncomfortable but I still didn't think it meant anything. Fast forward another hour and they were getting more like v mild contractions. I was keeping a quiet eye on the clock and by 10.30 decided to let DH in on the fact that I was having regular twinges - they were 4-8 mins apart and varied in strength. He looked a bit like this :yeahright:
We decided to head up to bed at about 11pm and see what developed overnight. I made a quick call to the birth centre just to check protocol as the twinges were coming every 5 mins but still weren't painful. They asked how long it would take for us to get there, I said 40 mins and she said "err, in that case I think you'd better get a move on" :yeahright:
So, called my mum to come and look after G still thinking that this was all a bit of an overreaction and we were in for a long boring night. Mum arrived, told me I looked too cheerful to be in labour  and we left the house at 12.05am. Thankfully the roads were empty as by the time we were halfway there I was clinging onto the dashboard and I was a lot less cheerful...
Arrived at the birth centre at about 12.30am, went straight through to be examined and the contractions had REALLY ramped up by now so I was whimpering for the G&A (lovely lovely stuff ).
Midwife had a look, said I was about 10cm, she could see my waters bulging, was going to break them and we would probably have a baby in the next few minutes
So, she did the job, they gushed everywhere I was overcome with the urge to push.
During this bit DH said "ooh, I feel really hot..." (it was boiling but later found out that the sight of bits of membrane and gunk being pulled off the baby's head had sent him funny) at which point me and the two midwives all yelled "for god's sake sit down then!" at him
Thankfully he held it together and 30 mins later out came a head - face up :yeahright: - the little monkey was back to back (no wonder it was so bloody painful and hard work!) I had a little stroke of his fuzzy head and the rest of him followed swiftly afterwards. I lifted him straight onto my chest and since DH is too squeamish I cut the cord once we'd waited for it to stop pulsing.
No stitches required this time  (Rafe's head is MUCH smaller than G's was  ) and physically I'm recovering faster than I did before.
Breastfeeding is going ok ish so far, he's inherited his brother's tongue tie so he's mangling my nips a bit  Although, he is a much gentler feeder than G who had windmill arms and a suck like a Dyson so am coping! The marvellous midwives at the birth centre have managed to get us an appointment for him at 10am tomorrow with a maxillofacial consultant to get it fixed so I am really hoping that this solves the problem  (although feck knows how we will get out the door for 9am :zombie: ).
I would hugely recommend Darley Birth Centre to any Damsels near the Peak District, it is a fabulous place and they couldn't do enough for me, every member of staff was just so lovely and helpful .
Anyway, little R is starting to squawk for a feed so I'd better leap to it!
Thank you for all the congrats on my other thread btw   Can't wait to hear from the other May Mummies!
