I must admit whenever I've taken Sophie to the HV since I've lived here I feel a complete geriatric to all the other mums in the waiting room and I'm not that old at 29!!

I went to school in Maidstone, and a girl, at my school, who was 14, got pregnant with twins!

I grew up in Maidstone and will always see it as home.

Several of the girls I went to school with had babies while they were very young and single (one while still at school ), it didnt seem that unusual TBH.

And yes- Parkwood is a MEGA dive! A freind was housed in a flat there and was always telling me about the trouble on the estate and drug dealers etc. Not a nice place to bring kids up at all :-(

What school did you go to Dilly Dally? I went to Vinters Girls.

I went to the Girls' Grammar.

2 of my sisters went to the grammar. I was always jealous of the unifirm-it was much better than the dodgy green we had to wear

I quite like green - the girls' tech (is it still there, I'm in my early forties, so it may not be!?) had that horrible maroon colour, with a blue shirt. Who thought that one up :loco:

The uniform when I was at the grammar (many moons ago ) was brown, with a cream shirt, is it still the same?

Park Wood's better than Mangravet and Tovil. The council have spent a fortune doing up the estate and dealing with trouble makers there and ignored the other estates.

Didnt know that MamaJ. Its ages since I've been back. I did take the kids to the soft play centre near there a while back but didnt venture any further than that. Enjoyed the soft play though

I've no idea if those schools are still going. I've got a feeling that the girls tech ( as you know it- think they changed the name to Invicta Grammar) has gone, but someone else probably knows better. Whe you were at the Grammar I would have been at Brunswick House Infants next door!

The Invicta Girls Grammar is still there.
And yes it is still brown uniform (better than DD's uniform which is grey ankle length skirt and maroon jumper with a black blazer over the top).

Nah, probably me. I know theres 2 girls grammars in Maidstone and the uniform for one of them is brown which is far more practical than my daughters one.....who wears LONG skirts these days!!!!!! I just blanked all thoughts of Maidstone grammars when my lot went out of town for theirs (I have 3 at grammar school).

I've lived in Maidstone for about 9 years now (fecking hell:shock:) didn't go to school here though. The grammer schools are MGGS which is maroon and blue uniform and Invicta Girls Grammer which is the brown uniform. There are so many young single parents out there and the thing is that some of them (not all) decide at 16 that they want to move out and so the only way is to get pregnant so the council rehouse them  don't get me started.....i had to fight and fight for the council to pay my rent while i was on ML before i had Joshua, in the end my mum had to sub me to pay my rent. The irony is that if i had got myself evicted from my flat the council would have re housed me and i wouldn't have paid any rent!!!

Anyway re primary schools....i've heard that Madginford Primary school is fantastic.

If you look at the link for MGGS, it says the uniform is brown - the same as when I went there all those years ago!

I didn't live in Maidstone, or go to primary school there, so I don't know anything about the primary schools, sorry.

I was on Maidstone councils waiting list for 13 years before someone told me not to bother because I wouldn't get anything and all I had to do was say 'no' to DH when he asked me to marry him.....I was already pregnant by that time:wink:
We found a lovely house in the end so it wasn't all bad.
