I've got to go the dentist at 5.30 tonight and on my registration checkup a few weeks ago i was told i needed a filling

Worse thing is the dentist didn't even tell me i was having a filling the receptionist did!! We went for the check up which lasted all of about 5 seconds :loco: then was on our way out booking this appointment and she said i'll see you in x weeks for a filling then and i was like  :brainache:

I am completly DREADING it :-( i hate the dentist anyway and haven't been since school until now  and because the receptionist just dropped it on me like that i didn't have chance to ask the dentist any questions or anything :-(

Most of you will probably be reading this thinking i'm just being silly but i'm SO worried, someone tell me they don't hurt . . . please

You're not being silly at all. I hate the dentist and fillings with avengence. You will get a local anesthetic injection so you won't feel the filling being done. You can also have a topical get applied to the injection site so you don't even feel that! I ALWAYS have it!

It shouldn't take too long to do after, so think of something nice to treat yourself to afterwards!

I know you'll be there by now, but honestly honey, it really, really isn't that bad. I think dentists must have gotten better at not hurting, as alot of us seem to be scared of them, but have a read of an old post of mine.... http://www.damsels.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10525

Today was the second lot of fillings, and I wasn't scared at all!! :ellie:

Thanks girls :flowers: I'm glad i'm not the only one who hates dentists!!
And after all that guess what . . . i didn't need a filling!! :ellie: :puzzled:

I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo glad i didn't need a filling, nothing was even mentioned about one all i had done was a quick scale and polish and a coating put on one tooth which he said was slighty discoloured which *might* one day turn into a hole if untreated.

I could KILL the receptionist  i have been worrying since my first appointment about what she told me about needing a filling, i have had the runs and felt sick all day thinking about it and i don't even need one!! I'm really mad but really glad at the same time if that makes sense?

Suze, get you eh, your a filling pro now  seriously though, it's really good that your not worried about going back, i suppose most peoples (mine included!) fear is just of the unknown so once you have done it once its no problem

I went to the dentist yesterday, after a 19 year break, and I need 4 small fillings. I am petrified but I also know that it has to be done.

If you need a filling its really best to go soon rather than wait and then have to suffer alot more treatment.

I hate the dentist too. I always buy myself a treat afterwards. I'm sure you'll be fine and it'll be over before you know it
