View Full Version : If you sell through ebay/classifieds- are the PO being changeable with prices?

I am finding that they are not really checking the size of the packets now, even though they have changed their pricing structure and it's getting me confused.
Because the craft bits I sell are light, but bulky, I expected them to go as a large letter and was charging 50p, which is roughly what it costs. But when I posted my first 'parcel' after the changes, it was classed as a packet rate (i.e. £1), even though they only weighed it and just glanced at the size. So, after increasing the price which is not what I wanted to do, today they have charged me the large letter rate for exactly the same parcel. :puzzled: I wish I had queried them the first time as I was surprised it was a packet rate.
I want to charge postage which I feel is fair, as I hate hiked up postage costs on ebay, but I can't afford to underestimate the postage either. I don't want to have to make two trips to the PO either, and get a quote before hiking back to send it.
Has anyone else had this problem? What would you be happy to pay for postage in this case.

the last time I sent out catalogues for my work it cost me .60p or so to send them. Now that the rate and sizing has changed I went in expecting to pay more but they didn't even weigh them and it only cost .44p
weird!

How annoying SP!
If you pop into the PO, you can pick up a leaflet, and inside, it gives you a template to put your package against, to see which rate it comes up as. It's also to do with the width of the packet, which it also explains. You can then work out the price for yourself, and if it comes up as any different, you can query it. :thumb:

I've been told that they are only going to start getting strict in a few months time once people are a more used to it and up until then they will deliver items if the correct postage is on them pre Aug 21.

I used the leaflet to work it out which is why I thought it should go a large letter rate and not packet. But today I recieved a better leaflet which you can actually post things through (how much fun was that! ) so that might be a better guide. Thing is, it does go through but 'touches' the sides- so what does that count as?
It has annoyed me a little bit as the idea behind it was to reflect their increased revenue costs when they try and deliver large items. But normally what happens to me is that they don't even bother to find out whether I'm in- they just place a notification card through the letter box and then I'm the one that has to make the trip to the sorting office to collect it. :yeahright:

I take it that means my parcel was cheaper  Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it, I didn't mind about the extra 50p and I'm sure other people wouldn't either. You have to put the max amount on just incase, you'd be annoyed if you undercharged so I wouldn't worry if I were you, £1 postage seems fine to me!

Yes it was your parcel chuckle.
I think I was annoyed that it just seems to be a bit of guess work on their behalf, they should have something where it is checked as they have for the weight.
Anyway, it's on its way to you.
