View Full Version : Any other 2.5 YO still in a cot(bed)?????????
Ds2 sleeps well in his cotbed, in his groabg, although he is getting too big for his grobag now as he is soo tall.
Now he has never attempted to get out of his cotbed, he is too far down. I was wondering whether just to leave him there or attempt to take the bars off. He sleeps thru most nights and I would get another year out of his cotbed before he would need a bigger bed.
We are on holiday in the summer for 3 weeks, when he will def have to sleep in a bed then.
So, now or in the summer?

Its entirely upto you to decide when to do it so good luck whenever you choose to do it, we took Lucy's cot bars off in January just as she turned 2. For the 1st 3 weeks we had no problems at all & she slept soundly without a peep, but for the last 2 weeks now she seems to think that when we put her to bed she gets straight back out again & stands at her stair gate calling our names or playing with her toys :yeahright: ...which I am serioulsy thinking about bringing downstairs now :bwahaha:  .

I'd wait. It really did disrupt DD2's sleep when we moved her at 2 yrs 3 months - no choice she could climb out.
DD1 was in a cot-bed at 2.5 yrs  I'd wait until the Summer.
What about a gate on her bedroom door instead?

Lucy has a gate on her bedroom door too, its puts your mind at rest.

Chloe is still in a cotbed at 2 years and 4 months. I have no intentions of taking the side down yet :happyno: although she can and does get out from time to time. I know she would take every oppurtunity to climb out of her bed and into ours.

Anna is  - if it aint broke don't fix it . I worry that maybe I'm babying her as she's still in a sleeping bag too, and we only got her a pillow about 2w ago, but she sleeps through every night from about 7pm till nearly 8am (apart from recently when Elliot has been waking the whole house between 6-6.30 :hissyfit:). She's never tried to climb out so I don't see the point in changing things. She sleeps very well in her readybed when we go away but at home she can stay in her cotbed for now .
hello Duckie,
Im of the same mind, I thought I may be babying him. We may one day do potty training too  he can now say wee wee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! progress in this house on the speech front, at last!

We took the bars off for her 3rd birthday. Prior to that she had been using a pillow and duvet anyway. She never did climb out of it.
Iin fact she is still using the same cotbed as a little bed, and she is 5 now. (great value for money there!).

We took the bars off in preparation for a holiday in June, and it has been a nightmare. He was fine for 3 weeks or so, but now he is up half the night wanting someone to sit in there with him. Possibly the two are not linked, but it is certainly a coincidence.
We have put the bars back on now as a gate on his room sent him hysterical and I couldn't stand him constantly running into our room screaming and waking the baby. The waking is still going on though.
So my advice is if it ain't broke don't fix it!
So my advice is if it ain't broke don't fix it! Agreed.
We only moved Jack out of his cot into a toddler bed as he was climbing out of the cot at 2 years 2 months. Had a nightmare though like SarahR so I wouldnt do it unless you have to!

Emily still is but only just -am planning on getting her a bed in the next month or so, certainly before her 3rd birthday. She slept in a bed when we were on holiday recently with no problems at all (apart from turning a complete circle one night and sleeping right at the foot of the bed leading me to run around panicky spreading pillows across the floor at 4am.......:zombie:)
In a way I'm quite pleased we've waited as she will be really ready for it when it comes!

Dan went into a bed about a month before his 3rd birthday - we only moved him because we thought we would need the cot for a new baby, we would have left him until he got too big otherwise.
We took one side off Max's cot last month - so he was 3.25  It's been fine - but he's always been a good sleeper and we've kept his routine the same so he's not noticed a huge difference.
We got the grobag sheets which, while expensive, have been totally worth it. He hadn't had a duvet before - was still in Grobags - and I think he likes the feeling of being zipped in. Plus, he can't kick the covers off and get cold and he can't fall out of bed. He *can* climb out of the bed but he waits until we come & get him in the mornings.
I don't know if it went so well because we left it so late  We really only made the switch because a) he'll need to sleep in a bed when we're on holiday in May and b) it's doing my back in lifting a 42 lb toddler into, and out of, a cot

I have the same dilemma! Penny is 2 in April and long by this time Lucy went into a bed - we needed her cot for one thing, but I also wanted to get it out of the way so she wasn't able to unerstand the climbing out thing. Lucy took to a bed really well, we sometimes found her on the floor in the morning :teehee: but loved her bed in the end.
With Penny though...I just suspect we will have trouble - she is such a madam!
I think I am going to do it after she is 2...:scratchchin:

We're going to have the same problems with Anya - I cannot see her staying in her bed at all and fully expect to find her in bed with her big sis!

Emma was closer to 3 than 2, but I can't remember exactly when. She never attempted to climb out of the cot(bed), her 18m sister seems to try :scared: but thankfully she can't get her leg high enough. (I really hope she doesn't any time soon).

Yay .
Although I worry about babying Anna, the thing I don't get is people who decide to change their child's cot to a bed when they reach two when they don't really have any other reason to do so :puzzled:. Yes, if your child is an escape artist or you need the cot for a new baby then fine, but if the toddler sleeps absolutely fine in their cot bed and still fits in what is the point of changing it??? I've got several friends IRL who've done this and it makes no sense to me :yeahright:. And one other friend whose DS is such a bad sleeper that she figured she might as well do it as his sleeping couldn't get any worse :happyno:.
But if your child sleeps fine then why bother? I just think the older they are the better they'll be able to understand what you're doing, the more excited they'll be able to get about chosing their new bedding etc. and having a bed like mummy & daddy's, and hopefully the more keen they'll be to stay in it . Just my random ponderings for the evening anyway .

Mind you this is the baby that was in her moses basket till she was 9 months :teehee::teehee:

totally agree!! We moved Miss E into a bed at 22 months because we thought Seri would prob be in her cot at 3 months but we could have waited really

Conor was in his cot (not cotbed, so smaller!) till he was 2yrs 10mths. We only moved him coz we felt like doing it, he was still just fine in his cot. He never tried to escape his cot so I figured why bother moving him.
One advantage to this was that he totally bought into thee whole thing, he was old enough to get it. We moved him into a new room, so he got involved in decorating, choosing duvet cover, choosing the bed, etc. So on the big night he coulnd't get in there fast enough and we've never had a problem since.

DD does, however she is going into a toddler bed at the end of this week. We are moving her bedroom, so thought while we were decorating her big girls room we would take that opportunity to go into a big girls bed.
We will need the cot back for the next LO so thought it would be better to do it sooner rater than later so she doesn't feel she is getting thing taken off her for the baby.
I am a bit worried about how it will go as she loves her bed and her bedroom, she gets attached to things we are going to just try and make it as lovely and cosy as poss in her new bedroom, and as she already ha a qilt and pillow she is taking those with her so hopefully thae transition will be smooth.

J is still in a cotbed, at 2 yrs 5 mths, and we are planning on keeping her there for a while yet. It is plenty big enough and I still find her upside down in it, so chances are she would just fall out of a proper bed, even with a guard on it
I was thinking about whether I should wean her off the gro-bag but then her sleep is (surprisingly) good at the moment so I just need to keep everything the way it is, to exploit that whilst OH and I catch up :thumb:
My DS1 is still in his cotbed at 2yr 10mths and has never once tried to climb out ,although he uses a duvet and pillow.Have been meaning to do it but since he sleeps for at least 12hrs a night ,I'm afraid to ...

Same with us. He sleeps wonderfully in his cot, always has done, and is even happy in the morning when he wakes up. He is tall for his age, but still hasnt tried to climb out. I dont see why I should change just because lots of other people do at this age. I dont want to risk his good sleeping until I have to.
Unfortunately I bought a cot instead of cotbed  so I think he will outgrow it before he tries to climb out

Sounds a lot like Ines!
Lexie was in a bed by 2 and a couple of months, but Ines at 2 and 8 months is still in her cot and grobag! I'm planning on moving her out in a couple of months - we're moving house so I want her to be in her cot for at least the first few weeks there, and then I just we might have to bite the bullet.
It was easy with Lexie - never had any probs - but I know that Ines is a totally different kettle of fish :brainache:
Ok ladies, thanks for your comments. I think I will leave him exactly where he is. there will be enough disruption in the summer as we are away for 3 weeks and sleeping all over the place. Altough he wont fit into a growbag by then so will go along the quilt route I think.

You'll just have to have another one then, then you can buy him a cotbed just like we did :wink::teehee:.
