View Full Version : Numbers in classes
How many children are in your toddlers nurseries and how old are you childen.
Is a class of 18 a lot for a 21 month old?
It depends on the number of staff caring for then. There should be one member of staff to three children under 2.

18 for one teacher sounds a frigthening amount! I think ofsted have rules on staff ratios. At our nursery under 2s / over 1s are 3 kids/staff (I think)

There are 30 kids in El's nursery but not all of them do every day and they are divided into 2 classes- at most there are 8 in her class with at least 2 members of staff on duty.
they do have one teacher per kids. Just sounds a bit scarey to me
The baby room at DS's nursery has a maximum of 6 and they always have two staff and often more. I think 18 does sound a lot for an under 2.
The over 2 room has places for more but I'm not sure how many at a guess probably 20. Though I think it is only before and after school they probably have so many.

I think there's 15 in total in the under 2s at nursery but with lots of staff.

Sounds a bit illegal to me for under 2's. So 18 under 2's to one teacher? :zombie:
At H and M's preschool there are about 20/24 odd kids from 2 to 4 and 5 or 6 teachers.
sorry I meant to write one teacher per 3 children!! Its a very good nursery with high offsted scores.
DD is starting nursery for two mornings a week as of Apirl 20th but the nursery have siad she will be going into amber class (2-3's) rather than coral (1-2's) because she is 2 in June. Would you be ok with this? Or would you rather your child be in coral (1-2's) until the next new term (september when she will be 27 months) DD is very confident and is with a childminder 2 x a week with her 2.5 year old cousin.

18 kids in the class with the right staff ratios sounds normal.
