I have this random large lump that over the last two weeks has been getting progressively bigger, between my ribs and my tummy button.

When I had my scan two weeks ago, admittedly it wasn't that big then (but I certainly new that there was a lump) and asked the sonographer if she could scan it to check that everything was ok (I had visions of my womb having migrated up my body etc etc bonkers I know  )

Well she told me it was just my bowel and not to worry.

But it's been growing and is bigger than my baby bump  I look about 6 months pg literally and when two girlfriends today said - jaysus, how big is your bump and aren't you carrying high  I thought i'd better ring my mw.

She called me back today and said that it wasn't remotely normal at all and that it really didn't sound like it could be my bowel and that it sounds v much like a hernia.

She's told me to go to the Dr first thing in the morning, although did try to reassure me that unless it was really bothering me, they wouldn't do anything about it till after the baby was born.

Excellent (especially as I have got a babysitter for tomorrow so that I can go to work tomorrow to try and catch up on all the stuff I couldn't do over the last x weeks having had such horrific morning sickness  God I seem like such a malingering git - people like me that give pg women in the workplace a bad name  )

Wish me luck!!!!

Ironically it's not bothering me at all apart from the fact I look like I'm hiding a rubgy ball up my jumper

AND what really pees me off is that all the research I've done on it says it's most common in people who are overweight  Before I got pg, I weighed 9.5stone at 5ft10

Has anyone had any experience of this??

One of my friends mums had this, they told her there was nothing major to worry about, but (you probably wont want to hear this) she got massive as it grew with her bump. you would have thought she was having twins or triplets. I'm not sure medically how it affected her but I know she worked until about 35 weeks (on fruit and veg at a supermarket) so I don't think it affected her too much. I don't really know too much about it tho.

Iv got 2 hernias Katt, one I had the whole pregnancy with Jay. It never bothered me and didnt make one bit of difference to my labour and deliver.

Since having Jay I have developed the 2nd one.

Have been told though that wont need to do anything about them unless they start to bother me.

Re: the overweight - well I am well and truly that!! Losing weight can help with them - though I know in your case you dont need to. Its basically your bowel muscle not knitting back together properly (something like that).

I was also told drinking too much isnt good for them either  so Im screwed - Im overweight AND like my wine :laff:

Well went to go and see the dr this morning and yes I have developed a hernia - a ventral hernia.

Nothing I can do about it (apart from some abdominal exercises which my DH who used to a real gym bunny can show me - can't say I've done any - well er ever tbh, or at least since uni which is an embarrassingly long time ago ), it's just my abdominal muscles that have come apart in a big way and being pregnant has pushed my intestine up and out through the gap Anatomically apparently it's more likely to happen to certain people, it's also more likely to happen if you don't do much abdominal exercise (which I don't - whoops!) and far more visible if you're thinner.

So I NOW look about 6 months pg Shall be trying to eat less and do more (some ) exercise to minimise it. But it's just one of those things - t's not life threatening and things could be a lot worse :wik:

Thank you for all your support, cherry (and I HAVEN'T forgotten about the things for J & T - I'm just the most disorganised person in the world   ) and jamtart

Dont be daft Katt, youve more things to worry about than me hun!!

Glad your hernia is OK and nothing to worry about. I remember being so worried about mine, though now I barely give it a thought - unless it starts aching which sometimes it does.
