I have posted this elsewhere but as most of us are here these days thought I would post here too!

We have had a slight breakthrough!

Isabel has never been a evening sleeper but over the past few nights she has been appearing sleepier and sleepier after her 7.30pm so last night I took her into her bedroom, gave her a bottle and then put her straight down in her cot - she slept really well :yay: until I got her up for her feed at 11pm :yay: I then gave her that bottle and put her down and she went back to sleep. It was also the first time that she ever slept in her own room (I felt really sorry for her )

So it was quite a success in that we got our evening back as she went to bed early and also that she slept okay in her own room.

The only problem is that she did wake a few times through the night, she does this most nights, she has a grumble and I leave her but eventually it turns into a cry and all she wants is her dummy, as once I have put that back in, she goes back to sleep - does anyone know of a way that we can over come this?

And also, my other question is, at what point can you drop the 11pm bottle? She really woke up for this, there is no way she will ever do a sleepy dream feed and changing her nappy really disturbs her (is it okay to not change her nappy at this time? normally I have changed it as she is already awake and then leave her till the morning unless she is poopy - which is never!) However I can see us dropping this bottle yet, as she drained it at 11pm last night so she was obviously hungry, yet she wouldnt have woken up for it for a good few hours

Sorry for the epic!

Great news about getting your evening back - makes such a difference.

DS was about 5 months when we dropped the 11pm bottle. He steered us in that direction as he started taking less and less and when it was down to about 2oz we decided to try not giving it and see what happened.

I think it went well and he then starting sleeping 7-7 pretty much straight away.

 try lots of dummies in the cot. Iona goes to sleep with on in her mouthe and one in each hand. You can als get glow in the dark ones that are easier for them to find.

I wouldn't change the nappy at 11pm unless its dirty. Also how about pre-empting her and doing a dream feed at 10.30pm?

She cant yet pick up her dummy and put it in her mouth, she does try though  :laff:

I am kind of preempting, as she didnt wake for the feed I had to get her up, but I think its the changing of the nappy that is disturbing her so much.

I definitely wouldn't change the nappy!
We never did the dreamfeed and G used to wake up once during the night for a bottle until we moved her in to her own room. We used to put her down at 6pm and she would wake sometime between 2 and 4 for milky-milky and then sleep until 6 or 7.
It is great getting your evenings back :ellie:

Hi Joanna,

We did the 11pm feed with Livvy, I would wake her up and change her nappy, this meant she was awake enough to take her bottle. She started taking the full amount but soon she just took less and less like schnapps said, and so when it was quite low we thought we'd see how long she'd go without it and she surprised us by sleeping right through till 7:30. This was at about 8 weeks, we were very lucky!

So since then we are doing the last feed at 8:30 which has turned into the same thing in that I'm having to wake her to feed her but instead of the amount diminishing she's wanting more and more, she's draining 260mls at every meal now, I think weaning will be starting soon!!

I would defo take her lead, when she seems not too bothered by the amount leave it out one night to see how she goes, you can always re-instate it if she doesn't make it through the night without it.

Oh and sorry can't help with the dummy thing, Liv enjoys sucking her thumb, luckily she can find them and just about stick them in her mouth although her blanket wrapped around said thumb and popped in the mouth seems to be a favourite at the mo!

Good Luck and I hope your evening bliss continues!

:ellie: yay for Isabel. It makes such a difference to get your evenings back.

I wouldn't change her nappy at 11pm. As long as it's not pooey she'll be fine. Regarding the dummy issue, we used to have this problem. Still do sometimes if she chucks it through the cot bars  It was about 6 months old that she learned to put it back in herself.

Great news Joanna!! Hope it continues!!

Re: The 11pm feed, Lucy dropped this by herself when she was 10 months old. TBH it never really bothered me so much, as she was in bed at 7pm and i never heard a peep from her, i tried not going up for that feed but if i left her she'd wake at 1pm and then again at 3pm wanting milk so it was easier (and lazier!) for me to just feed her at 10:30pm whilst i was still up anyway so she slept through then til 7am, so she never really woke up in the night iyswim.

Some babies drop that feed a lot earlier my sisters LO is just 7 months and she has been sleeping 7pm to 9am since she was 4 months old without a feed

Well last night I didnt change her nappy which helped tons she didnt even open her eyes for her feed, I dont mind that feed to be honest, its really nice and cuddly and she went back to sleep instantly.

However, she did wake me up 3 times in the night crying for her dummy
