Following my thread at the end of October regarding the outcome of Lucy's Parents Evening, i had a long conversation with my HV/GP and she's been referred for her Speech and Language and also to a Special Board of Professionals who can hopefully help us find out what the problem is with her gross motorskills etc if anything at all.

So regarding Speech and Language, she's got a hearing test booked in for the 16th December, they've said that they'll await the results of this before sorting an appointment for an assessment with the Speech Therapist, as if her hearing is an issue obviously that will have to be dealt with, tbh i don't think she has ANY issues with her hearing whatsoever, but we shall see, if they can get her to sit still long enough to test her :teehee:

I've had a telephone call and a lengthly conversation with a lovely lady from the Board of Professionals and she's just waiting to get back Lucy's Teachers Statement outling what she thinks and how she thins we need to move forward. Once this is recieved we'll have a meeting, me, the Teacher and the Board to discuss what to do next. Hopefully they'll do a series of tests/questionnaires and it will be obvious to them what the problem is and they'll come up with a plan for us.

I've been told that once the Statement from the Teacher has been recieved (hopefully this week) we can get a meeting arranged within the next 4-6wks but then we MAY have to wait 3-6 months for any plan to be put into action depending how URGENT they think that the matter is, if at all.

I'm SO pleased that things are moving forward this way, and i got rather upset on the phone talking to this lady this afternoon, i felt such a tit tbh, but it was good to let it all out.

She was asking HOW long i had thought there had been a problem and i'd never really thought about it before but tbh thinking back, i've never thought there wasn't a problem iyswim?? I've just sort of brushed over it as people tell me, its normal toddler behaviour, she's just clumys etc etc and i didn't want to push it as i didn't want to appear like some crazed Mother obsessed with labelling her child

I'm SO pleased though that the Teachers have picked up on the exact things i've been thinking all along, its been a great weight off my mind that i'm not totally imagining it and its not just because i can't deal/cope with her behaviour.

I'll keep you all posted on the appointments and let you now what we find out.

Thanks again for all your support.

That's great news. Its good to know you don't have to just keep turning these things over in your own mind, that you are going to get a 'proper professional opinion' isn't it?

Good luck with it ... we have our first appointment tomorrow

Good. Very good. It sounds like your preschool are doing this part of their job well - sadly not always the case.

Don't blame yourself for not picking this up earlier btw - it sounds like the sort of thing they wouldn't have been able to identify very early anyway.

I'm so pleased with the progress and that you are happy with how things are going. You were right to trust your instincts - well done. x

I think its helping that her MAIN teacher who clearly adores her :lurve: came from a Special Needs School and is an expert in things like Dyspraxia, SPD etc so i think its even better that SHE has picked up the same thing i has as she actually knows what to look for iyswim.

 Hi there,

Well done to you for having the faith to keep going and not letting it be brushed over. Her main teacher is just who you need to get the ball rolling and identify her needs as they are now. They sooner they are met the better, give her the best chance when she hits Reception.

I still have your bedguard by the way

FURTHER UPDATE: The Lady from the Board called this morning and said that she'd had a Board Meeting and had also had a VERY productive conversation with Lucy's Teacher. She said she was really impressed with the Teachers knowledge of Lucy's strengths and weaknesses and general background when she's only taught her for a term. She said she was very impressed with the programme the school had put in place for Lucy regarding her movement classes (not sure if i'd mentioned this but she goes out of class once a week to join in a movement class with the other special needs children) and other things they're trying to get her involved in

She said that the Board have decided they'll need to meet Lucy but that the waiting list is v long atm and so that meeting may not happen until Feb/March which i was expecting anyway. She said if anything happens in the meantime she'll contact me.

We've still obviously got the hearing test on 16 Dec and we're still awaiting the Speech and Language Assessment.
