she only takes 3/4oz every 4 hrs so not a lot i thought about weaning her cause of last night every 2hrs wanting feeding... what would you do? or is she not taking enough milk to be ready for solids she is 18wks by the way

I'm assuming you're formula feeding? (or have oz marked on your boobs :wik: ) What formula are you on - is it the hungry baby one - like SMA white? If not I'd move to that. ALso what flow of teat? Perhaps try a fater flow to get her to take more like 8oz at a feed?

yes i have big X's on my :boobies: :wik: she has just been moved on to aptimil first with colief drops cause of a lactose intolerance...she has always only ever taken 4 oz's she is on fast flow teats i just cant get her to drink anymore its just she is waking more and more..last night was unreal once/twice i can cope with but every 2hrs..its not worth going to bed for...thats why i thought maybe if i wean her slowly it might make her more fuller..

Does aptimil have a hugry baby formula? If it does then perhaps try it but otherwise I'd start weaning - I weaned both of mine at 16 weeks
ETA - Just looked at their website and they do one for hungrier babies - The Milupa Aptamil range includes a choice of first milks; Milupa Aptamil First is a whey based infant milk for bottle fed babies. Milupa Aptamil Extra is casein based for hungrier babies.

ah right..it just the dr told us not to use hungry baby cause of the problems its causing..she was on cow and gate hungry and then we started having problems the other week ill go have a read now she just seems overly hungry and thought maybe weaning would be a way to solve it or cause more problems...lol :laff: and to top it off our clinic is shut till next monday  thank you noo noo

Sorry to hear you're still having probs Dora.
Just a word of warning, be careful when changng formula. We did this, on advice from the MW and Jess ended up in hospital. Obviously I'm not suggesting for one minute that this will happen, but different formulas, even hungry baby ones of the same brand, do have a slightly different make up, which can sometimes off balance little ones.
I kow it's difficult when they don't take much. Jess was only taking the same amount as Amy at her age. We just upped it by an ounce. That way we could see if it made a difference, but without wasting loads of formula.
HTH a bit!

When I changes from SMA Gold to SMA white I did it gradually - in an 8oz bottle I used 7oz gold 1oz white then 6oz gold 2oz white etc until we were on all white. Helped him to adjust more quickyl - the hungry formulation can cause constipation when you first start on it.

Well it's entirely your decision, but we weaned Jess at 4 months with no probs.
