I was thinking the other day that when alfie starts school and is full time until 3.30pm or whatever it is, i really need to think about going back to work full time or for those hours he is at school, as i cant really be a SAHM theres no need to be either....

I enjoy doing the promotional work that im doing now etc but in 3/4 years time at 25, 26 is this still feseable (sp) and ok to be doing this

Plus unless i know that its guarenteed i get say 7+ jobs a month i dont know if it would be worth it. As id like to be bringing in regualar money then.

I just dont know what i want to do with my life where id like to work, the thought if another office job petrifys me since i was 18 this is all i have done, a customer service advisor sat staring at a PC all day and talking into a phone i just dont want to do that again!! But i dont know what else to do and i guess that not everyone loves there jobs.....

Receptionist?
Personal trainer?
Working in a clothes shop (you'd get a discount!!)?
You'd get to see people with all of those.

As you've already got office experience why not use that but try & find a job that won't tie you to the desk all day. Even if you are initially employed in a admin/PA capacity once you're 'in' with the company you can always put yourself forwards for specific jobs/helping out etc as long as the person you're working for or the company you're working with isn't 100% office based. Also I would try & think of something that has potential for good day-to-day variety - your customer service advisor role for example was no doubt every day on the phone helping people. OK so they may have had different issues/complaints etc, but as you say staring at a screen all day get very boring (I can sympathise because I used to sit at a computer all day!)

Things that come to mind are conferencing & events, PR, hotel receptionist, Estate Agency....I'll see if I can think of anything else for you. Also, I do think SB's idea of working in a shop is good as you're obviously into clothes - why not just find a shop that you wouldn't necessarily buy stuff but would enjoy helping other people choose things or better still.....a personal shopper for someone like Debenhams.:ellie:
Good luck whatever you find.

CH - weren't you doing a beauty therapy course? Maybe try and expand on that and maybe become a mobile one?

i was going to say receptionist as well - i can see you somewhere posh looking glamorous! or in a hotel, or what about a travel agency?

there are loads and loads of things you could do CH, why not make a list of the things you like doing (as opposed to the things you don't like) and post them here and see if we can come up wtih something, or see if you can find a job to fit what you like doing rather than fit what you like doing into a job if that makes any sense!

:scratchchin: I was thinking the same - either that or something like hairdressing course as once you have those skills you're pretty much sorted for life & can go mobile/freelance to fit in with Alfie.

I would quite actually like a job where i can dress up in suites and look all posh and glammed up that would be good!! Everytime i have worked in a office i havent had to wear a nice suit its just being smart clothes like black troussers and a nice top or something......

A PR person or confrence & events person sounds good, and sounds important  although not 100% sure what it is that they do

A receptionist i guess is a good idea to, you'd always pretty much be busy there with calls and typing things up etc.

Estate agent (working there) could be fun and if love to go and have a nosey round other peoples houses

The thing is id like the money to be quite decent not like £40 for the day or whatever when alfie nursery fees for the day are £30, although in 2 years time i wont have to worry with this as he would be in school then. Although at 4 do they go from like 9-3 whatever it is.

Maybe a receptionist in a school would be good as it get the summer holidays and all the other holidays off

Just a quick note about being a hotel receptionist - there are perks but the hours suck @rse as its definately not well paid or a 9-5 job. (and lots of the celebs I met were rude and obnoxious - but Charlie DImock was a lovely lady)

Also, school receptionists jobs are like gold dust (or they are round here) and when one does come up you have loads of people applying as they all want to be off with the kids.

Great dream though!! We could do with a decent club here

Well you could buy/rent it and pay someone to sort the fiance side of it to start off with, start a course and then you take over once you have completed it!

You can be owner without having to do it yourself!

If you like promotions work you'll prob suit events and pr. You could always try get some work experience at a PR or Events agency as you won't be losing anything.

I would want to be part of it all, ie the what happens inside the decor, the music, the kind of thing im after the nights i want to put on etc etc.

Id need to have money comming in first to be able to rent it, the same as someone to sort out the finances

CH - a difficult one. In all honesty it is only now that at a few years shy of 40 I know in my heart what it is I want to do for the rest of my life career wise. It is not motivated by perks or money but for a true yearn to do this.

When I was younger I would have said many other jobs I wanted to do - but these were motivated by lifestyle, perks, money etc etc. Consequently I have worked in a few areas before becoming a sahm. I have enjoyed many of the things I have done in the past career wise but they are all far away from what I want to do with the rest of my life.

All I can suggest is to enjoy doing what you want to do now. Write a list of all the jobs you would like to do - no matter how daft they sound and then work your way through seeing what feasibly you can do - and go for it!

Don't worry about what job you want to do for the rest of your life - this may come to you sooner or later - but I believe it will.
