It's not really fattening, it just takes a while to burn off the calories as it's a carbohydrate. Depends which school of thought you follow diet-wise. I love the stuff.

i had it for dinner with a tesco's spicy pepper sauce...very yummy
I'm of the school of thought that it's only fattening if
a) you eat MAHOOSIVE portions
b) you smother it in a creamy, fattening sauce
So most tomato based sauces with a "normal" amount of pasta can't be counted as fattening. Of course, if you're on the Atkins then it's a  but for GI type diets in moderation it's fine :D

agree with shamu - pasta itself is not fattening (i would even go so far as to say even if you eat quite a lot) its what you eat it with that's the problem.
when i was doing body for life (which is a fairly extreme diet and fitness programme) pasta was an allowable carb which means it must be very low in fat and carbs (by itself)
there were other carbs that were banned, including some fruits, vegetables and beans that you would not have thought were 'worse' than pasta but were in fact much higher in carbs.
i lost a shedload of weight following that programme & was sometimes eating 3 meals (being small portions though) of brown pasta and mince/chilli a day.
i should think the ginormous portion of tagliatelle carbornara i had for dinner last night was enormously fattening though, not to mention the pavlova for afters....
if you're trying to lose weight then smaller portions are the way to go, as well as cutting down on oily, creamy, and full fat dairy type products in my opinion. and of course choclit.... but pasta is a good staple.
in fact (sorry for the rambling) on the diet i did we were encouraged to favour pasta over bread (even brown bread). so there you are. pasta rocks! :ellie: (as long as you eat it with the right things....

I make my own tomato sauces to have with pasta and then i add whatever i like to make it taste nice. my favorite spice has to be chinese 5spice! i also started to cook frozen cauliflower and blend it in with my tinned toms so it ups my veggies
Also, pasta is said to be low gi if its cooked slightly al dente
