I'm seriously thinking about buying property there... it's always held a fascination for me but as yet I've not visited (2008 or late next year with any luck) but I'd love any first hand knowledge.

I have never visited but have one of my colleagues is from Chile and absolutely raves about the place. He is hoping to go back to live there in the next couple of years when he retires.
From my personal point of view which probably doesn't count for much as I have never been to either country, I would prefer Argentina as it has a more Euro feel to it from what I have heard but I suppose it depends on what you are looking for. I studied Latin American history and politics at uni and speak fluent Spanish so I do have an interest in these countries but Argentina just appeals to me more.
Not much help am I?

Jules, it is a help just to hear from someone with an interest!

Argentina does appeal, but it does have a somewhat unstable economy wheras Chile's is the most stable in South America... I don't know - thre's just something magical about being cut off from the rest of the world by the Andes. :)

Yes you are right about the economy, they seem to be having strikes day in day out. It sounds fab whatever you decide to do. Whereabouts in Chile would you like?

I'm thinking the Lake District atm... but really I need to get over there, hire a car and explore. Just need to save a few grand first! :laff:

Hi Miss Dem,

I lived in Chile for a year last year. The Lake District is absolutely beautiful, a place there would be lovely. I definitely recommend you get over there and explore. It's the most amazingly beautiful country.
I don't know what the legal ins and outs of buying would be as things can be a bit of a bureaucratic nightmare.
I can't help you much with house-buying advice as I'm not really anyway near thinking anythng like that. But I can definitely give you some recommendations of places to go and things to do. I suppose the thingo think about with buying would be how often you'd be able to get over there and actually use the place? It might be cheaper overall to go over there and hire somewhere. You then wouldn't be tied down, and you'd have more money to do exciting stuff in Chile AND Argentina

Just have to bet me boyfriend in the same country as me now and we can go to classes
