My commute is probably (each way) 25-35 minutes from the childminders (work is 3 minutes from there). Incuding the time it takes to pick her up I think it's 45-55 minues. The time varies depending on the time of year. It's a 20 mile journey each way and I have to use a car.

I live in a different town from where I work which has some benefits. Commuting never bothered me until I had a child to transport to and fro each day, but I think I'm probably lucky as this is a quick commute for 20 miles.

What is your commute like?

15 miles each way. I leave at 7.30, get to nursery for 8 and am in work for 8.15. It's not bad, get a bit bored of it sometimes though...

Much improved! I used to commute to London 2 hours each way. Now I pop in my little car at 8, drop DD at nursery, drop DH at work and then I'm in work by 8.40am!!! Heaven!

Currently I have to bump the buggy up 35 steps where I live, 5 minute walk to the train station when I have to bump the pram back down 50 stairs. Then a 15 minute train journey to my destination and another 10 minute uphill walk to the nursery. Lucky the nursery is in the building next door to where I work. Then it's the same knackering lifting/bumping, uphill/downhill struggle on the way back home again.

However............. once I move house things will change for the better and for the worse I'm afraid. My travelling time is going to double to a 30 minute train journey each way but thankfully the station is still only going to be around 5-10 minutes from my house and there's no hills to walk up when I get off the train at work.

35 minutes each way but I don't really mind as it's the only time that I don't have someone talking to me !

5 minutes if I go in the car and 20 if I have to walk!

The main reason I moved work to my home town!

Mine is about 20 minutes each way. I live about 7 miles from where I work but often have to go out to meetings and training as part of my job so need the car. I did try getting the bus to work for a while but it takes nearly an hour.

Including dropping and picking up kids, an hour and a half each way. Thankfully I only work 3 days a week, and try to work at home for one of them!

36 mins or so each way

12 mins walk to station
12 mins on the train
12 mins walk to work

I'm actually very fortunate to live where I do, it's very convenient for working in the City.

Fortunately DH does the nursery runs.
Dependant on whether they're digging up the bloomin road (believe me it happens a LOT!) it can take me 20mins - 1hour & a half. It is about 9 or 10miles.

Now we have moved to Essex and I still work in London, my commute is about 1 1/4 ! Nearly an hour of which is sat on the Tube in peace and quiet reading my book without someone wanting my attention!!! Bliss

I work about 6 miles from home (maybe less, can't remember) but the time varies wildly. Mainly depends on school holidays but anything from 20 mins to an hour  I HATE it as I drive at the moment and sit in the car frustrated....
Can't wait to move to my new job in Sept 07 which will be on a tube line - depending where we're living at the time it'll be 30-45mins I imagine. I plan to do as Cathy does and spend that time reading :ellie:

Too long!

My commute is horrible, and I have been doing this for 8 years, just recently moved and so the journey takes even longer.

Takes on average 1 hr 45 to 2 hours each way!
Its a walk to the train station, train, change train and walk to work.

Its starting to wear me down now.

I only work one day a week and mine is about 30 mins but broken into two sections - 15 mins from home to my parents to drop the children, I have tea and toast then leave for school which is another 15 mins, depending on the traffic.
I have always vowed never to travel more than half an hour to work, especially as I drive so it's wasted time.
