Tonight we had a parents evening & got to see Alfies class that he will be in, the headmaster gave us the speel etc. Was a good evening
In Sept b4 he starts school on the 8th the teachers comes & does a home visit. Is this a new thing? I dont quite get why. Never did this in my dad  & surely if you had any concerns/querys you would just go straight to the school
Is anyone else getting them?

They do them at our primary too.
The teachers like to see the kids in their home I think as they get a quite good insight that way. Also it helps settle the kids if they have seen the teachers out of school. Its the friendly approach I think

I've heard of more and more schools doing that. I think it's a lovely idea. They didn't do it when mine were little, but the younger 2 knew all the staff at the school anyway because of DS1 being there, so it would have been uneccesary in our case.
I hope you and Alfie like his teacher and get a good vibe from him/her!

I had it done with my eldest. No sign of it with DD2 or Nathan though ( but they are going to be in school in Essex whereas DD1 started school in London)
If they did decide to do it then they would have tomake it an evening anyway as Nathan not here during the day- and I dont suppose they would like that much LOL
We are having one too as Ben starts in Sept and TBH I was a bit :brainache: when I found out about it. But now I think it will be a good thing and I am looking forward to the chance to ask them lots of questions!

Lucky for your dad I say .
No seriously - they all do it here, even most of the pre-schools and nurseries (we have a year of nursery at 'school' before they go into reception). They say they like to meet the children first and introduce themselves and, particularly with shy/nervous children or children who will find the environment a real change, it is a big help as they are not stepping totally into the unknown. I guess they also like to have a nosey round the home as well and see where the children are coming from ifyswim (damn I'd better pick up all those empty Stella cans ).
We have Alex's teacher coming in September (before his nursery year) and he's already told me he's going to tell her all about different types of freight trains. I'm sure she will be utterly thrilled :yeahright:.
They don't do it here but as DD2 is at the school nursery they've had lots of introductory sessions and met their teacher several times already.
Its her last day at nursery tomorrow, then 7 weeks off before she starts school in August.

Apparently it depends on the school as to whether they do home visits or not. DS's new school don't but we have a private meeting with the teacher the week before he starts.

They don't do it here :happyno: but not sure if that is just because I live in Scotland  .

We have one too, my parents say it is because they want to see the enviroment they are bought up in!
But I can see where they are coming from with the children being more relaxed. I know Tyler will be more relaxed.
