Hei :hatoff:
Just a quick post before I get back to cleaning :teehee:
I confess to being a LARPER and a RPER :ellie:
Who else is and what do you play?

Ok, so I outed myself over on the relationships board...
I have tabletop roleplayed for 16 years and LARPED for 15, since getting pregnant I've also become addicted to online gaming courtesy of world of warcraft *hangs head in shame*
I've played lots of different RP games, most recently Star Wars d20 version (obsessional star wars fan is Mr Elektra!) and many LARP systems too, LT, Omega, Quest Celtaii, Vampire (Tyne and Wear and Liverpool)
I'm also a comic fan..gawd I'm an uber geek :)

Oh dear. This is all a bit deja vu. What faction are you in LT? Only it turned out that Dev and DH (and me when I turn up, mostly to drink beer and make clever remarks) were the same faction. It is a very small world and I suspect we may know you. Particularly with the Omega thing....
Also, what server are you on in WoW? Got any good twinks? Only DH has got some sort of Twink guild going for warsong gulch, should you be interested. I'm struggling a bit with WoW battlegrounds atm because of ghastly lag, I think this PC needs a rebuild but I have to wait for his maj to do that.
Er.... and what comics? I'm in the process of trying to rehouse DH's comic collection. :sigh: This is all too parallel universe for words.

Well I was a Hart for yonks, but most recently I've been Dragon-ing...it is a very small world. Yay to the beer and clever remarks, they and luvverly costume are my main reasons for larping :)
I'm on Moonglade server, but am such a girl when it comes to battlegrounds. I too suffer dreadfully with the lag (sounds almost gynaecological!) to the extent that Mr Elektra thinks I want extra ram for my birthday....Ha! What I actually want is a mulberry handbag.
Comics, lovely to read but a fecker to store..too heavy to go in the loft and too many to go on a bookcase.
Hmmm wonder if we know any of the same people, it's highly likely given the small nature of the larpy community?

Beer is always good. And singing. And costume, which I think is a bit of a girl thing. One of the reasons I don't do this any more is that I don't have time to make the sort of costume I like to wear - the last one was supposed to be made out of small leaves sewn together - I did cheat a bit but it was a lot of work. Most blokes think "costume" consists of wearing a different tabard over their armour.
Boo, however, to the abysmal acting and the acne-ridden youths who think that roleplaying consists of running around and shouting. (They are monsters. :zombie: You stand still, they come to you. What are they going to do, go home?) And the strange consensus by which we all pretend the world is actually going to end. Again. I have lost count of the times Ragnarok has been averted by some dubious plot-flange; surely if this really happened to you, you would believe you were invincible, or at least protected by fate? But no, Henny Penny, the sky is falling.:shock: (Look at me! Look at me! Acting!)
On WoW we're mostly on Defias Brotherhood (RP PvP).
Comics - we've had the bed made higher and are storing them in those proper cardboard boxes under the bed. It's the overflow that's a problem. Am hoping that MIL never finds the boxes and boxes she lost in a house move.... I'm not desparately into comics myself, except Sam and Twitch and maybe pretty stuff like fathom.
I'm trying to think who I know/knew in the harts. DH's mob are all wolves (he was 1 IC at one point) and a nicer bunch of brainless thump-monkeys you couldn't wish to meet. In a nice way, of course. You might know some of them from Omega, though not likely to recognise them without the rat masks! I have to say, I hated, hated, LOATHED Omega, but that was largely on moral grounds because the whole "player-led" plot thing meant that it was possible to pay your money, go out looking for action and still have an unutterably dreary weekend, which seemed to me unjust and really just idleness on the part of the organisers. But I know the rat boys had a blast, as did many of the players they happened to. If they survived.....

Morning, am in labour so will be brief and my spelling may be crapper than normal..
I hereby demand an award for finishing a WOW instance last night despite my waters breaking part way through :) I am truly hardcore! Plus it really didn't hurt until 3:30am...
Hmm previous wolf 1 IC, post Dave Hale I presume? See I really don't know many wuluffs, as my character Prudence was always trying to start wars with them, ahh the joys of IC diplomacy :)
I am totally with you on the Omega thang, I presume your chaps were Torvak? As they are the only rat boys that spring to mind..
I played a PC from the city and then a wolfen, aka chick with stick (cause of my big spear don'tcha know?) But was completely disillusioned when I finally persuade Mr E to give it a whirl and the bloody world ends at his first event. Bah and humbug!
Right off to crank up my tens machine, see you later hopefully with a birth announcement

Elektra - :bowdown:to you for WoWing through your stage 1. (I just wanted them to put me on the drugs from about a week before the birth.) Expect this to form a major part of your birth story when you post it!
Lol @ your DH turning up to Omega only to find the world ending. Don't you hate it when that happens? Yep, our lot were the Torvak. "Who you? What you for? Got any shineys?" *splutch* You couldn't miss them, really, could you?

Hi all
Just found this thread and thought I'd introduce myself. First of grats on the baby and  to you finishing the WoW instance!
I've been LARPing for a few months now, having been introduced to it by my bf. He's also got me into table top and EQ2, basically he's turned me from being a started geek into a major one!
I play in a system called Shards, it's a lot smaller than things like LT and CP, with the average event having maybe 60 people. It's really friendly, all the ref's are lovely, especially to LARP virgins like myself. Mostly we play at an amasing sight called Candleston in Wales. Anyone else been there?

hey TM...I know Candleston and its infamous sand, once that stuff gets in your kit bag you never get rid of it
Mr E used to live in south wales so he's bound to know some of the Shards players, but neither of us has played it.
Is it fantasy or SF? So pleased there are more geek and larp damsels!! Anyhoo, I'm off for a :coffeemug: and will post birth story and pic later...

HI
Shards is a fantasy game although the same company - Chimera Leisure - also run a sci-fi game called Crimson Requrim. At the moment the Shards storyline is building up to a grand finale with the next plot picking up 10 years later. Most of the players will be starting new characters with a whole new story arch beginning. The whole group is very friendly and one of the ref's even brings his kids along so if you fancied coming to an event I'm sure you'd be more than welcome.
I love the Candleston site and was so pleased when the new wardens said that they were going to start having weddings there soon. There is even talk of doing up the castle so that they can be held up there. I've already got my big day all planned out in my head although I have to admit there is one thing missing - an engagement!

 So do you all get together in a room and do this or do you sit at home on your pooters and do it?
I've never heard of it!!
Does it cost anything? :puzzled:

here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LARP) is the Wikipedia entry.
It's fairly cheap as it is usually students that do it, and they are saving their money for beer. It's generally outside as it's mostly blokes hitting each other with rubber weapons (snurt) and shouting, which isn't safe in an enclosed space. The hitting is punctuated by milling about trying to work out who to hit next. The whole thing is occasionally given a sense of purpose by the organisers, who provide "plot" which is a bit like the instructions you get with a murder mystery dinner. Actually, trying to run a murder mystery dinner with LARPers is a nightmare because they all lie about what's written on their bits of paper and try to job each other between courses (never again....) :happyno:

I am back :wave2: :hatoff: LOL I start the thread and I only post once
Computer games I play (when I get the chance) EQ2 and Star Wars Galaxies.
Tabletop games I used to play Star Wars, vampire the masquerade but my favourite was call of cthulhu (set in the 1920's)
I have been collecting board games as Devil boy is not really into role-playing (except SWG and EQ2) games that much but he dos like board games. I have got some very funky Cheapass games (the big cheese, lord of the fries, the great brain robbery, unexploded cow) Before I kill you mister bond is in the post :ellie:
Huge congratulations Elektra :flowers: I will look for you birth story tomorrow :ellie:
Welcome to damsels trufflemonkey :welcome: :flowers: :wave2: :hatoff: :ellie:

Ooooh a wedding at candlestone would be very cool!
Larp - Live action role play or cross country pantomime! You pretend to be a character and interact with other players and hopefully the plot :)
Like a big freeform version of those murder mystery weekends.

Hi all
I'm currently having a bit of a costume crisis as I need a roman-esq dress for an event in a couple of weeks. I don't want anything too skimpy as it's an outdoor event and it could be quite cold by then. Also I need to be able to move around quite freely. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi Truff
What gender is this costume for, and what era and occupation? And do you want to go for "authentic" or "recognisably" Roman?

Hey, just saw this!
Another WoW player here :wave2: I play on Bronzebeard and am a Nightelf Priest, nearly at 60
Can I ask, since having your baby Elektra, how have you coped with playing instances. We have found it a logistical nightmare!! We played our first since having ours (BRD) at the weekend and arranged the guild run between feeds with LO in a sling, and it worked a treat :ellie:

I am boggled how anyone manages to stay sane through a high-level instance (5 hours of frantic milling about, usually for nothing) with or without baby.
DH has gone the twink/battleground route so we have a nice collection of L19 armed-to-the-teeth twinks which you can take out for the odd half hour which is about all I can stand!

Yes, redhed, tend to agree. I am always completely exhausted after and we havent done that many.
We have friends in a serious guild who practically do an instance EVERY evening - I couldnt cope with that!!
Havent been in the battlegrounds. DH has and finds it frustrating as he found that people dont really work as a team unless you go in as a guild. How do you find them?

I am about to go out so a quick explanation.
Live role play: you dress up in fancy dress and go camping while pretending to be someone else for the weekend

And off track a little bit from what DG meant in the first place I think, WoW is World of Warcraft which is a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game. It isnt as nerdy as it sounds and its hugely addictive. Great fun. So I dont dress up as an elf in real life, just online as my character!! honestly

LARP is, by definition, (live action role play) done with real people in the real world. In so far as any of this is "real" (ie not at all). MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online roleplaying games) are the internet equivalent.
In the above discussion WoW (World of Warcraft) is MMORPG. It's a big virtual-reality world on the internet where you wander about hitting people. The other people will look like Elerina the poncey night-elf or Scublles the dwarf but actually be Nigel the Computer Studies student and Marvin off the night-shift at Sainsbury's.
At the weekend, Marvin and Nigel may go to a LARP event like the Gathering mentioned above, where they will dress up - probably not as Elerina and Scubbles but possibly as Hendrin the human mage and Wesstkit the beastkin incantor. The latter will require wearing makeup all weekend, which his girlfriend will have devil's own job getting out of the pillowcases.
Note: anyone turning up, either on line or on site, and calling themselves "Legolas" is liable to be shot on sight.
