Sorry, I have posted before, but we've been looking since April and can't find what we want. Maybe it doesn't exist. We look on rightmove EVERY single day for new ones coming on, and there is nothing that we want. We found one we loved but there may (or may not) be a bypass being built a few hundred yards away at some point in the future, so that's out. We found another one, but it broke the old rule of "don't buy the most expensive house on a road" and the primary schools were a bit rubbish, we found one that was at the top of our budget but needed a lot of work doing on it and IMO was way overpriced...........
sorry for the rant!
I'm trying to convince OH to buy a smaller house & extend it, but he says that's ridiculous - I think it's the only way we can get what we want.
Thanks for listening

Sorry its taking so long CB!! I'm sure the perfect house is out there for you somewhere.

We've been looking for somewhere to renovate since January and have had no luck. Everything we've looked at is too expensive and wouldn't make us back enough money once its resold. Its a real PITA as our plan was to buy and sell on 3 houses to make some profit so we had a tidy sum as a deposit as atm we have zilch. We're in rented accomodation which tbh is a nice house in a very diserable area, but ATEOTD it isn't OURS and it doesn't feel like home to me. We COULD buy somewhere and move in right away but we would want to move again after a year or so to go to a better location or a bigger house so our plan was to stay put where Lu is settled atm and make some cash so we can just buy the house we want in the first place instead of keep moving all the time, but its not going to plan. Never does, we've been trying to buy property since 2000!

I feel your pain honey and like you I scour Rightmove every waking minute of the day too :higgies:

It all really got to me last night when I realised it was the first of August today and that there wasn't a hope in hell of Lorna getting her own bedroom by her 2nd birthday

Jane - there IS hope of you moving before Lorna is 2!
I really hope we've moved before Emma's birthday.

eta - Jane, did you post abut your valuation? I can remember you posted saying they were coming, is it on the market yet?

Yes Jane don't be disheartened just yet. Just because you've not found anywhere doesn't mean you won't before Lorna is 2. As long as there is no chain or a reasonaly small chain then once you've found somewhere you could move in as little as 6-8 wks all being well on the finance side of things, so you never know!!

I'm sure your BOTH have houses waiting for you somewhere and i'm sure you'll both find your perfect home v v soon.

The woman valued it at £65k which is about 10k more than I was thinking  That gives me a deposit of around £35k for the new place.

Not putting it on the market just yet as Alan is working away so much that I can't keep on top of everything myself and I'd really rather we found something first before putting ours on the market as the houses here are selling in a matter of days.

Oh i see, probably a wise choice, but would be a shame if you found the perfect place and then couldn't sell your flat, did the Agent advise you not to put yours up just yet.

My friends are moving tomorrow, they put there house on the market at Xmas and have gone through 3 potential buyers which they've lost because they hadn't found anywhere to buy themselves and they all dropped out. Luckily now they've finally done it and like i say they're moving tomorrow.

Spose its swings and round abouts in property, you never know what to do for the best do you!! Its like 6 years ago we had the oppurtunity of buying the house we were renting for £90k would have been a fab investment because they're going for £250k down that road now, we really dropped a bollock there :sigh:

Mrs D, i'm sure your perfect "opportunity" is just around the corner. I can imagine how frustrating that is!
Jane - that's really good news for your deposit! does that up your budget up enough to give you more options?

Princess Fiona

Oppurtunity, thats exactly what we're waiting for, has been a long time coming but the prices of property just seem to be going up and up still and there are no run down properties left to revamp and make some cash on because everyone else is doing it.

We worked out that in the space of 12 months we could buy 3 properties turn then round and resell them within 3 months each time and make approx £60k profit combined, we can currently borrow £235; which next year would rise to £280k on Dh's profits so we'd have a pretty nice amount to spend on a house in our area, probably still only a 3/4 bed semi though as the prices are SO high here!! :sigh:

There is just no point us buying anywhere for £235k, our rented property is worth that and its small and only has 2 beds and although its a much desired area we're on a main road practically which is very busy, if we bought this house down the road it would cost just short of £300k which is silly for 2 bed semi!!

Nope and I've actually persuaded Alan that we DON'T need a separate dining room. He's happy for us just to go for a 3 bedroom, livingroom, kitchen and bathroom semi preferably with a garage. We might have more of a depost so less mortgage to pay but the dearer the host the more expensive the council tax. Alan says we can just set up the t-shirt business in the spare bedroom and whenever we have another baby there's a50% chance it'll be a girl so it can share with Lorna

I know the feeling - I don't think it's quite that expensive around here, but the problem is where we want to live is mostly semi's & terraced and OH won't consider anything but detached this time round (we currently live in a semi), that means any detached that do come on the market are relatively over priced as they are so scarce iyswim.
But 300K for a 2 bed semi is absolutely ridiculous!

crossed post with you Jane - I'd not thought about that with council tax - do the bands jump up that much? i thought is was like an extra £10p/m per band?

Calamity

Well I pay £110 per month just now and for us to move to a house at around £130k the council tax jumps up to £240. So that on top of a mortgage of £600 and £500 per month nursery fees it's making me rather anxious about how we're supposed to feed ourselves

jaysus! that IS a mahoosive jump
You never know the t-shirt business might really take off and this time next year you'll be millionaires!

We've spotted one on rightmove, so we shall see. I think it's in a lovely area, but it isn't walking distance to MIL's so OH isn't sure  :loco: Boys & their Mums!!!!!

still no luck for us! the house has had subsidance issues in the past, they wanted to be upfront with any potential viewers, so OH says it's a non-starter.
Well done L6tty on finding the one you want.
We're holding out another 6 wks and then "compromising" . not sure what to compromise on - area, road, budget, style or size.........................

Here's hoping you find something soon. We can't find anything we like at a reasonable price so we will be doing the old plan "B" in the very near future. If it all works out I shall not be moving again for a very long time I can tell you.

Sorry to hear that M :higgies:

I have actually had to do most of the compromising on this house we've put an offer in for. It's not in an area I wanted to move to and it's a 30 minute train journey into Glasgow. If I'm on an 8am start it means I'll have to leave the house at 6.40am with Lorna to get to work/nursery. The station however is only about a 10-15 minute walk away from the house and the station at the other end is 2 minutes from work/nursery.

It does mean that I won't be getting taxis in and out when I'm running late as it'll cost me about £35 to get into Glasgow as opposed to the £7 it costs me just now:doh: And my OH mainly tends to work in the area where the new house is so it's not likely that I'll be getting a lift in and out either

The house is lovely though so I suppose compromises must be made. Also the council tax for this one is £174 per month so better than I had expected.

I hope you find something really soon that you both love honey xx
