I hope i dont get flamed for this, infact i dont really care if i do..
There are new houses being built in a nice area not far from me, i have been hearing about it on the radio
There 3/4/5 bedrooms and the 3 beds are going for £280.000. Out of all of them there building they are keeping 30 of them to give to council people and Housing assosiation...
How is it fair that people who get placed by the council and are on benifts get these nice new houses, when you have people working there asse off and paying a morgage to live in a nice place & have a nice house. I also know from seeing alot of council places that not everyone looks after there house, i know its a minoroty, but i so feel for people that try to make a effort and make it nice and then you have someone else a few houses down, with crap all in there gardens banged up cars that they are trying to workon.
My cousin got a deal like this, in wiltshire, there were new houses built and out of them they kept a few for council and housing assosiation, all she had to pay a month to live there was £60 everything else was paid, her coucnil tax the rest of the money and the people that had brough there house, were having to pay a morgage
I just dont it:-( why do they get a easy ride
Don't get me started :soapbox: :soapbox:  :happyno: .
BFWIW I agree.

Don't ask me either. Not fair.......we were going to apply for housing benifit when we were in our flat private renting and we going to get it but then moved and then got the morgage, but they don't give you any help if you have your own house!
I feel sorry for the people that move in to the nice houses and pay their morgage and then not being funny but some people like you said trash the houses and outsides and don't look after them.
I rent privately because there is no way I can get a mortgage around here on my own. I have worked since I left school and so have always paid my own way. When I was made redundant, I applied for housing benefit and was basically told that I wasn't entitled to any!
It gets me so much that people that have never paid a penny for anything get everything for free!
I have some friends who are single mums living on benefits with council houses and they seem to be able to afford to go out every weekend without fail - I'm lucky if I can afford to go out once a month!!
sorry - just wanted to have a rant there!
But I do have to say that there are some people who really do need the help. My friends husband died when her little girl was 6 months old, leaving them on their own. She got a council place, but she does work almost full time, and pays the full amount of rent, council tax etc etc..........so isn't living on the state.
The same for my cousion, his girlfriend left him and their little girl, he got a council place but works, and pays all the bills............so not everyone just sits at home doing nothing in these places!
But I do think that is is really unfair that I know of a lot of people who do nothing, and just expect the state to hand out!

I have nothing against people that live in council houses and work etc, and pay towards things, it just grates me that some people just dont do anything and have every benifit going. When there is no reason for them not to work, its just laziness or they think there better off on benifits
I know as well now that some houses that are going up are to help people to get on the ladder im all for that as well and they do a part paid part rent thing, but there still contruibiting and earning to pay for somewhere to live.
Booh - I agree with you. Lots of people do need it and are more than happy to pay their way.
If I could get a council house I would because I find it such a struggle every month to pay my rent, council tax and all my bills. But unfortunately where I am it seems that you have to be a single mum who doesn't work to get any help at all!
But saying that - when I was out of work they wouldn't help me!

I agree *some* people genuinely need the help and work hard BUT it drives me mad!!!
It seems so easy to get a bigger house if you are already in council/housing association, but if you're privately renting or have a mortgage it is so difficult to go up the ladder and get a bigger house!
we claimed full tax credit for a couple of months when OH was out of work last year, now we have to pay ALL of that back - it seems so unfair that its the only time we've claimed something (when I was on mat. leave & OH got made redundant) that we now have to give it back, if OH hadn't set up his own business & I hadn't gone back to work, we could've kept our "free" money!

This is the law, a certain % or new houses/apartments that are built are allocated for HA/council.
I just wish they would stop building houses and "resuce" the towns that are desilate and empty (there are towns with thousands of empty houses selling for £2000 each) and stop giving the immigrants a free ride

This thread has got me really worked up :hissyfit:
Although, I can completely understand and sypathise with people that HAVE to claim benefits and not pay rent if they are in a situation where they need to. I have claimed benefits and even had my mortgage interest paid for a short while in the past  (while actively looking for a new job, may I add!)
It's the lazy ones that wind me up!!! The ones with absolutely NO intention of working and do nothing to help society whatsoever. I also know some single parents, who have everything paid for, bringing up their children in shall we say, an undesirable way, who are going out every weekend, always have new clothes, mobiles etc.
It makes me sooo  !

Its not just the immigrants who are getting a free ride though. There are many people who were born here and are on benefits too.
I posted earlier about my neighbour from hell. She is in a private house ie. not council built, but the council put her in it along with her 3 kids. I don't have a problem with that but when other people neighbours on the street try to keep their properties looking nice, it really p*sses me off that just because she doesn't own the house she can destroy it. Oh and to top it off she doesn't work and her 3 kids are at school all day
Its about time the government does something about it, tax payers are being taken for a ride.
Ok and breathe
