I took a 35-80mm lens and removed the front glass which I'd read would turn it in to a (budget) macro lens.

Seeing as I'd already got the lens from ebay I thought I'd give it a go. Here are the results..

I obviously need to work on the settings, as I just had it in macro, flash on, in bad lighting etc.

I think a macro lens will be my next purchase :scratchchin:

Anything sort of macroish i take is with my 17-50mm lens, i know its not a true macro but only cost £60, im getting a macro as my next lens too.

They dont seem bad do they

interesting :scratchchin:
I think it might be worth trying again with a slightly wider dof as it's difficult to see the clarity of the focus.

I just use a 250d close-up attachment on my kit lense for macro shots. Probably not quite as good as a proper Macro, but has given me some amazing results.
To test the attachment out I took a snapshot of a mushroom. If you did the same you could compare lenses.

I'd say if you are likely to want to take lots of macro pictures then save up for a good macro lense. If it's just for the odd macro shot then persist with your conversion or try a cose-up attachment.

I was just looking at those pics on flickr J. Very good considering it's a converted lens!
