Our council provides a wheely bin for refuse, a box for glass, cans and plastic bottles and a box for paper and card, all three are collected weekly.

We are a family of 4 and I know we could do a lot more to reduce waste but we only put our bins out every few weeks. Even then they hardly have anything in compared to the neighbours overflowing ones. Half the time we bring our wheely bin back in with more in it than when it went out because someone keeps on putting big bin bags in there!

How do people fill their bins so quickly and what with?

Our bins are always full, even more so now we have a baby. Current contents would be disposable nappies, food leftovers and packaging! Everything comes triple packed these days in plastic and cardboard - what do you do with it?

We recycle paper, cans bottles and plastic. Our bin usually has 2 bin bags a week in it. I use cloth nappies so that helps to keep the rubbish down, so theres only usually food waste and packaging that can't be recycled.

I am thinking of getting a composter but wouldn't know where to start really

We hardly ever fill our wheelie bin but are always full for recycling. The wheelie bin gets emptied once a fortnight as does the recycling box & bag

We recycle glass, plastic, carrier bags, paper & card, tins and we also have a composter.

I also use cloth nappies and get rid of stuff on ebay, freecycle and charity shops.

I think some people just don't bother to recycle.

I recycle everything we can but don't have much of that either. We forgot to put both the recycling and bin out last week so have 2 weeks of stuff to go out tomorrow. We've only got stuff in one of the recycling boxes and that has one carrier bag of paper/card, 7 4pint milk cartons, 4 cans, 2 wine bottles and a couple of other bits. The main bin has 4 carrier bags of rubbish in it.

Well our bin is emptied fort nightly too and we recycle tins, glass, paper,.garden stuff and cardboard.

Doesn't stop our bin overfilling though all the same.

I never have that much rubbish anymore. The council collect paper, cans, and glass. I take plastic bottles and bags to the supermarket, and all veg cuttings, cardboard and garden stuff goes in the compost.

Everything non recyclable is the plastic packaging from food, leftovers etc.

Bluecow, this site has some stuff about composting...www.recycle-more.co.uk/nav/page551.aspx
