................... in booking to fly on my own to Ireland on Wednesday at nearly 29 weeks pg with a 22 month old toddler. :brainache:

I've just remembered that she still has to sit on my lap but the penny has only just dropped that I don't think she'll fit. :happyno:

Can everyone PLEASE pray that there is a spare seat next to me and the airline take pity on me (and her!!) and let her sit next to me for take off and landing (v doubtful!!) and the flight (highly possible if there is a seat)

I think I've lost my mind............

Thank GOD DH is coming back with us next week on the flight!!

eta - I'm actually not even going to THINK about how the journey to the airport is going to be, on my own, mardy toddler, pushchair, suitcase, MASSIVE HEFFER ME, taxi and train. I'm thinking that a drink at 7.00am in the morning, just before we leave, whilst pg probably isn't a goer??

Would it be too expensive for you to buy a ticket for her?

mmm I've asked about this before but they've told me I'm not allowed as she's under 2 and legally they have to sit on a parent's lap....(definitely for take off and landing anyway)

To be honest, I've never had a problem with there NOT being a seat next to me on that flight (mid week to SHannon) but I've just remembered it's the start of school holidays, isn't it.

I think i'll ring them and see.

God I have no idea how I keep FORGETTING how huge and knackered I am. :loco:

P had a seat to herself from 14 months - but I did put her in her carseat in the airline seat iyswim. Might be worth investigating though.

sorry but :teehee: only because i know how little room there is on laps for toddlers in your state!

maybe you can find a willing volunteer for surrogate lap sitting duties?

(apologies again for laughing but its just a ridiculous feat in my experience!)

That's exactly what they've said.

But the thought of me carrying a carseat AS WELL!!! :faint: :loco: :happyno: (we have one over there that we use when we get there!)

I agree - and I do deffo have to laugh! Especially as I'm 5ft10 and so the seats are a tad uncomfy at the best of times.....

Oh dear....
Am going to send you some "hope there's a spare seat" vibes....
I remember my hideous journey when I was 22 weeks pregnant and James vomited over me, our plane was diverted, and our luggage was lost only too well, and I was SOOO glad he had his own seat....
Could you buy her a ticket, claim you're going to sit her on your lap at check in and fib to the air stewards telling them she's two (assuming that they don't look at your passports.....)???? She's only 2 months short of it in age and she's not teeny.....

on the more positive side ...
I flew Glasgow-London when I was 6 months pregnant with a 23 month old toddler and it was a breeze - honest! I flew bmi baby and I'm not sure if they try and give you a seat with a vacant one next to it or not, but all 4 flights I've done with them have had exactly that.
The stewards are really helpful as well I find. Good luck though!

oooh that's positive Samba thankyou!!!

Shamu I PRAY my flight is better than yours!!!!

Well taking on board Shamu's advice about lying re her age (good idea!!) I've gone to see how much a ticket is and the cheapest they can do is £174. :faint: :loco: Totally my own fault for not actually thinking about this sensibly earlier

I'm SO hoping that they're as understanding as they normally are (I've flown on my own with her loads before, and tbh, like Samba says, they've always been fab!)

Katkinn - not sure who you're flying with, but I've discovered that both Easyjet and BA require you to have a doctors note saying you're fit to fly if you're over 27 weeks - just a thought

Thanks for that bluesgirl but luckily I'm only going with aerlingus to Ireland and you don't have to have a dr's note until you're 32+ weeks (for everywhere else you do at 28 plus weeks just not UK to Ireland)

When we flew to america, they said to put emma in her own seat & we weren't allowed to hold her for take off & landing, actually told to put her in her own seat. that was with AA - i asked for an extension and they didn't have a clue what i was on about and then on invetigating, she said "oh that's a europeon thing, we don't think it's safe" . she was 18months at the time. not sure if that's helpful at all.
I'm sure you'll have a spare seat next to you.
have a good time.
