My mum is going away for 3 weeks. I have had it in my mind that while she is away I want to decorate the bathroom for her as a surprise........

3 walls are tiled, and one is painted. Quite dark purple (previous owners choice) - We have no window in our bathroom as its in middle of house upstairs (semi-detached dorma bungalow)

Anyway. I know I have to try sand down wall, and skirting boards / door jams.
Need to paint ceiling too........But I dont have a clue where to start with regrouting tiles and replacing the manky mouldy seal round the bath.

Also kind of want to replace light fitting but dont know what she would want. Know woodwork needs to be white (currently a pale lilac) and I know a rough colour for the wall (to match tiles!)

Just after advice really on grouting / replacing the seal. Or am I overestimating what I can achieve in 3 weeks?!!!

PS - I have my OH and brother who can assist!!!!!

www.diynot.com (http://www.diynot.com) is useful - has forums too which I've found invaluable for some jobs

Thanks

Just had a quick peek now and looks useful. Will look more when I get home (and without mum spying to see what I am doing!)

I think you can buy special grouting pens, I guess like tippex :scratchchin: that you can use to refresh grouting.

If you're redoing the bath seal, when you put the new stuff on make sure the bath is full of water and leave it full 'til it dries. If you don't do this the first time you run a bath the weight can pull the bath away from the seal and cause leaks.

Hope that helps

Ooh - thanks for that. Wouldnt have thought that!!

Trying to work out which order to do things in! Think I will sand down paintwork first and wall, and then take out old grout. Get messy bit out the way. Then possibly regrout before painting........

Phew! I really want to do this for my mum to surprise her when she get back.
